Australia Day
26th January
The What Is Australia Day
Australia Day is the official national day of Australia. Celebrated annually on 26 January, it marks the anniversary of the 1788 arrival of the First Fleet of British Ships at Port Jackson, New South Wales, and rising of the Flag of Great Britain at that site by Governor Arthur Phillip.
The Significance Of Australia Day
The significance of Australia Day have evolved over time. Unofficially, or historically, the date has also been variously named "Anniversary Day", "Invasion Day", "Foundation Day", and "ANA Day.”
A Negative Point
Some people do not like this day being celebrated. For example some indigenous Australians call it Invasion Day or Survival Day because it was the day that their native land was invaded.
