Mill Creek Magic Messages

News and Updates from Mr. Ortman and Mr. Murtha 10/28/2022

Red Ribbon Spirit Week!

Each year, Central Bucks and the nation holds Red Ribbon Week, which celebrates the legacy of law enforcement agent Enrique "Kiki" Camarena, who spent much of his career spreading the important message of making good and positive choices, in addition to the work he did to fight crime. Mill Creek celebrated Red Ribbon week by holding Spirit Days focused on making good and positive choices. This year, Creekers wore crazy socks, showed their Mill Creek spirit, and wore our Phillies' (and other sports') gear (also a chance to celebrate the Phillies making the World Series - go Phils!) to celebrate. Check some photos below of our fun and spirit!

FROM MR. ORTMAN and MR. MURTHA

We have spent the past few days celebrating Red Ribbon Week at Mill Creek through some spirit days surrounding the theme of making good and positive choices. Red Ribbon Week occurs throughout Central Bucks' schools and many schools across the nation towards the end of October. The origins of Red Ribbon Week involve the legacy of a DEA officer who fought the war on drugs. At the elementary level, we put the focus of the week on making good choices, holding spirit days to celebrate making good and positive choices, and holding classroom presentations about making good and positive choices.

We recognize the tremendous impact, as adults, we have on our students/children. It is an awesome responsibility. It is arguably just as important to teach our students/children about making good and positive choices as it is to teach them how to read, write, and build math skills. We also recognize that this awesome responsibility is a partnership between school, parents, and the greater Community. So, we also appreciate the conversations and teachable moments that occur, every day, at home, too, towards making good and positive choices.

Have a wonderful weekend, and thank you for your partnership!

Information about Halloween at Mill Creek...

Mill Creek's Halloween Celebrations will occur on the 1/2 day morning of Monday, October 31. Here is some important information involving those celebrations:

Our Halloween Parade will occur early in the school day; start time will be 9:30 a.m. The parade takes place in front of the main school entrance in the bus loading/parking area. A roped-off parade path will be set up. Spectators need to be on the outside of the parade path. The Halloween Parade is weather dependent. If inclement weather occurs on the 31st, we will hold classroom celebrations only.

Costumes worn for our Halloween celebrations should be school appropriate. The following should not be a part of a school Halloween costume:

  • Hockey sticks, baseball bats, or other items that could be harmful.
  • Costumes/objects with violent themes.
  • Weapons used as costume props.

Classroom celebrations will occur after the Halloween Parade. Food is permitted for these celebrations, but we would ask that, where possible, community food items be individually packaged (students may still bring in their individual, daily snack for personal consumption in school). Please communicate with your child's classroom teacher if you would prefer your child refrain from eating food items that are part of classroom celebrations.

We look forward fun and spooky day on the 31st!

Instructional Spotlight - Ms. Leuthe, Health and PE

Each year, our wonderful and creative Heath and PE teacher, Ms. Leuthe, brings a ton of Halloween spirit to the Mill Creek gym by transforming the space into a haunted house! She then plans PE activities where students interact with the haunted house, dodging spirits and ghosts along the way, as part of their phys. ed. class. Every class gets to experience this spooky setting during the week leading up to Halloween. It is a Mill Creek tradition, and we thank Ms. Leuthe for the hard work she puts in, every year, to incorporate the Halloween season into her instruction!

Student Laptop Expectations

Central Bucks Technology & Innovation Department is asking us to stress the importance of laptop case use for students (grades 3-6) when they transport their laptops and when laptops are not in use for extended periods of time. At school, we will be stressing the importance and reminding students of the need to put their laptop in its case during these times (e.g. when taking a laptop from their classroom to specials class). We ask that you stress these practices at home, too. Thank you for your support!

Additionally, if your child loses or misplaces their laptop case, please reach out to the Mill Creek Main Office.

District Laptop and iPad Care

Central Bucks Innovation and Technology Department has asked us to communicate the following regarding District-issued laptop and iPad care...

  • Please encourage your children to use their laptop/iPad bags for carrying devices in school, at home, and to and from each location.
  • Please encourage your children to report issues/problems with their devices, so they can be properly address and fixed as soon as possible.
  • The laptop/iPad payment fee covers accidental damage. Intentional damage may result in a family being billed for the damage.

Schools will be communicating these messages in school as well.

We appreciate your support!

Inclement Weather Procedures for Car Riders - Dismissal

We ask that, on inclement weather days, car riders post a placard with the student(s) family last name, so we can call in names for quicker dismissal. We will do our best to send a message out earlier in the day if we believe inclement weather dismissal is necessary for car riders. Feel free to use the placard template below if you find it helpful.
