Excellence: Always be your best and do your best

Padbury Catholic Primary School is an education community committed to following in the footsteps of Jesus, living our motto ‘Love One Another’ (John 13:34)

Our Vision is to educate the whole child, Inspiring Hearts and Minds, to become faith-filled, creative, life-long learners through meaningful and innovative experiences.

Our Vision comes to life through our core values which are inspired by the Gospels and our Mercy charism: Compassion; Service; Mercy; Justice; Dignity; Hospitality; Stewardship; Excellence

Please check the community calendar for upcoming and future dates as the calendar is regularly updated.

Mercy Day

As part of our Strategic Plan and Annual School Improvement Plan we have a focus on enriching the Mercy charism at PCPS.

Padbury Catholic Primary School opened in 1985 and the first Principal Sister Carmel Wringe, a Mercy nun. As such our school is based upon the charism and ethos of the Mercy Sisters. On the last day of this term we will be celebrating Mercy Day with a liturgy at 9am, followed by our Mercy Values Merit Awards. After this we will be learning more about the Mercy Values and Catherine McAuley (who established the congregation of the Sisters of Mercy). Parents are very welcome to come and join us for this part of the morning. The children will then buddy up with another year level to do some work on a specific Mercy Value and after lunch there will be a sharing of what the children learnt.

Our Year Six students are busy preparing the Mercy mini fete to which all year levels are invited to take part in the middle block of the day. I congratulate the Year Six children on their wonderful efforts in preparing for this, they have been amazing in their organisation! Kindy will have their fun and games during the week and will be run by our budding Yr 5 leaders. All money raised will go to Mercy Works who are the charity branch of the Mercy Sisters.

Pirate Cove Playground

Our Pirate Cove Playground has been completed and the opening was on Monday where we had a whole school pirate dress up day, along with gold chocolate coins for all the children (supplied by the P&F). The children are loving the sunken pirate ship!

Welcome Wall

Our Welcome Wall is travelling along nicely and will be finished by the time we come back in Term Four, weather permitting. I love the local flora that has recently been added so creatively to our school motto on the wall.

Extra Curricular

I would like to thank our wonderful Music teacher, Mrs Cusack, who has coordinated our participants in this year’s Catholic Performing Arts Festival and One Big Voice. It is a big task and there are many hours spent behind the scenes planning and practising with the students. Special thankyou to all of our fabulous staff too who have assisted Mrs Cusack throughout the festival period, it is very much appreciated.

Big thankyou to Ms Remigio for assisting the children with their preparations for the TOM competition, providing great learning opportunities for our children.

The Edu dance concerts have commenced! What an brilliant performance by our children on Tuesday. We look forward to concert number 2 next Thursday. Come and see the children enjoying expressing themselves and unleashing their creativity through the medium of dance. Big thanks to Mrs Tardrew for co ordinating Edudance this year.

I would also like to thank Mrs Bastow for all her great work this year as the Drama/Art teacher, providing different opportunities for the children to unleash their creative talents. Our fantastic Musical Production, Amazing Adventures of Superstan, was the highlight of the year. Huge thanks to the production team headed by Mrs Bastow and Mr VB.

We received an OUTSTANDING AWARD from the Catholic Performing Arts Festival for the production this year!

But the accolades didn't stop there! We also won the Catholic Primary Principal's Award (Primary Musical Production category) at the recent Spirit of the Arts Concert.

Congratulations to the cast and crew yet again!

Two of the cast members, Maya and Campbell, represented PCPS on Monday night at RAC Arena to receive our award. What an amazing feat!

Last week was busy with the Athletics Carnival. The children had an energetic day!

I would like to thank Mr Hignett for all his great work in organising the carnival Thank you to those parents who were able to help out with jumps and throws and also on the Friday the carnival, it was very much appreciated. Congratulations to John Paul faction on winning the shield this year and to Mackillop faction for winning the Mercy Shield for great sportsmanship, fantastic cheering and well organised tents.

Looking forward to seeing you all at Bogan Bingo tonight at the Woodvale Tavern!

Many thanks to Cathy Farrell and her team for organising what will be a super fun night!

Thank you and happy holidays

I would like to say a thank you to all the parents who have written some lovely, heart warning emails and notes to me throughout the term or spoken to me personally. Your words of support on the great programmes we have at PCPS, your appreciation and praise of the staff and the Leadership Team and your expressed gratitude for the wonderful pastoral care for your children, is very much appreciated. I really enjoy receiving these emails and notes, thank you for taking the time to let us know how you feel as it means a lot to the Leadership Team and our hard working staff. Our school motto of ‘Love One Another’ continues to shine!

This will be the last newsletter for the term so I wish you all a wonderful holiday, enjoying this beautiful spring weather with your families and friends.

Thought for the Week

Have a wonderful fortnight ahead and we hope you enjoy a relaxing holiday break with your family!

Mr Ryan von Bergheim & Mrs Loretta Hutcheson

Assistant Principals

It was great to return to a normal sports carnival this year and have our parent community there in full support. We had amazing luck with the weather again this year with beautiful Spring sunshine on display for all three days of our sports carnival. Monday and Wednesday saw some amazing individual efforts in the field events of shot-put, javelin, long jump and triple jump. We also witnessed some great races in the middle-distance events.

Congratulations to John Paul Faction who won the annual sports carnival again making it 7 wins in a row. What a sensational effort by the students in gold faction. They led from start to finish but only just managed to hold on as the other factions came home strongly in the relay events.

Thanks to all our parents who helped run the jumps and throws activities earlier in the week. I really appreciate all the time you gave up, so the carnivals ran smoothly.

The final scores were very close.

1st John Paul (Gold) 1766 points

2nd Padbury (Green) 1719 points

3rd Mercy (Blue) 1696 points
