TERM DATES
Please check the community calendar for upcoming and future dates as the calendar is regularly updated.
FROM THE PRINCIPAL
Mercy Day
As part of our Strategic Plan and Annual School Improvement Plan we have a focus on enriching the Mercy charism at PCPS.
Padbury Catholic Primary School opened in 1985 and the first Principal Sister Carmel Wringe, a Mercy nun. As such our school is based upon the charism and ethos of the Mercy Sisters. On the last day of this term we will be celebrating Mercy Day with a liturgy at 9am, followed by our Mercy Values Merit Awards. After this we will be learning more about the Mercy Values and Catherine McAuley (who established the congregation of the Sisters of Mercy). Parents are very welcome to come and join us for this part of the morning. The children will then buddy up with another year level to do some work on a specific Mercy Value and after lunch there will be a sharing of what the children learnt.
Our Year Six students are busy preparing the Mercy mini fete to which all year levels are invited to take part in the middle block of the day. I congratulate the Year Six children on their wonderful efforts in preparing for this, they have been amazing in their organisation! Kindy will have their fun and games during the week and will be run by our budding Yr 5 leaders. All money raised will go to Mercy Works who are the charity branch of the Mercy Sisters.
Pirate Cove Playground
Our Pirate Cove Playground has been completed and the opening was on Monday where we had a whole school pirate dress up day, along with gold chocolate coins for all the children (supplied by the P&F). The children are loving the sunken pirate ship!

ATHLETICS CARNIVAL 2021
It was great to return to a normal sports carnival this year and have our parent community there in full support. We had amazing luck with the weather again this year with beautiful Spring sunshine on display for all three days of our sports carnival. Monday and Wednesday saw some amazing individual efforts in the field events of shot-put, javelin, long jump and triple jump. We also witnessed some great races in the middle-distance events.
Congratulations to John Paul Faction who won the annual sports carnival again making it 7 wins in a row. What a sensational effort by the students in gold faction. They led from start to finish but only just managed to hold on as the other factions came home strongly in the relay events.
Thanks to all our parents who helped run the jumps and throws activities earlier in the week. I really appreciate all the time you gave up, so the carnivals ran smoothly.

Goldilocks and the Three Bears
Year One and Two
Measuring with chalk is fun! We love using chalk in Year 2! Some students wanted to see how long they could draw with one piece of chalk without stopping, so they drew the line and then had to measure it. We questioned how could we measure the line when it was longer than our ruler? They decided to count how many feet the line was and then they measured how long their foot was. We then had to multiply the two numbers together with a calculator. The line was 23 metres and 73cm long! | Can we guess how much we raised? Our Year One classes donated to their chosen charities and wanted to have a go at guessing how much money we would raise. This linked to our money topic in numeracy. Along the way we noticed that some of the coins were not the same. These are called commemorative coins. We discovered why they are designed, and that they are usually bought as a souvenir. Looks like one of them accidentally dropped into our money collection for us to explore! | What is a lyrebird? Can we do a report on this? Our wonderful Year One students have been learning about money and we discovered the various Australian animals on the coins. The children knew very little about the lyrebird and wanted to find out more. Together we sourced information on this Australian bird and completed the various stages of the lyrebird report. These photos capture the report writing and research using iPads and apps to display our work. |
