News from this week
Dear Parents,
We had another busy week! The students scored very well on the Multiplication, Addition, and Subtraction Assessment. Most errors had to do with the actual computing of numbers, not difficulty with concepts. I would really like students to practice their facts for at least 10-15 minutes per day. They will need to be fluent with these facts throughout the year. I have numerous games on e-class to practice these facts. You can also download free math practice apps to help them if you are constantly on the go. Any practice will help.
We had a presentation about the American Revolution put on by the Daughters of the Revolution for the fourth grade students in the media center. Ask your child what he/she learned. This will hopefully give them some context when we move in our Social Studies unit on the American Revolution next week.
I hope to see your child at Morning Math on Tuesday at 7:15. Now that we finished multiplying, we will move onto division. I will post a few short videos to show you the 'new' way students learn long division. Please refrain from teaching them the way we learned growing up until they learn to do partial quotients well.
If you would like to donate any treats to our class treasure box, you may send them in at any time. I usually have small things in there, such as candy, small toys, pens, etc. The treasure box is one of the treats students can purchase with their classroom money. If you have a question about any items you may want to send in, just send me an email. Thank you to those who have already sent in some treats!
I wanted to remind everyone that our reading program has officially started. Reading logs will be sent home on Fridays in the Friday folder to start for that for that week, and they are due every Monday or the first day of the school week. Students are welcome to write their reading list on a piece of paper if they ever find themselves without a log on a Sunday night. Please make sure to sign your child's reading log every week or else it will not be counted. Also, if you decide to submit the reading log online, please send me an email by Monday morning. I do not get a list of online submissions until Wednesday, so I need to get the confirmation of submission from the parents.
There is no testing next week and we will be back on a regular schedule, so please feel free to come and join your child for lunch. The following week is a no visitor week again.
Field Day is Friday October 4th. Please mark your calendars. We would love to see you there. Also, if your child is interested in The Georgia Young Authors Competition or Environmental Club, please scroll down for more information.
I hope everyone has a wonderful weekend!
Mrs. Stoffle

Other Important Information
The Young Georgia Authors Writing Competition
What to Write: Unlike many writing competitions, YGA does not provide a prompt to which students must respond or provide any other boundaries to their genre choice or creativity beyond a 1900-word maximum length, which is no more than five pages if typed (Times New Roman, 12-point font, double-spaced). All papers should be written on the front side of the paper only. Entries must be typed or handwritten on 8.5x11 inch paper. Print on one side of the paper only. Do not bind, make a cover for, decorate, laminate, or otherwise alter the original paper on which the entry is written.
Gwinnett County Public Schools does request that submissions be appropriate for the school setting.
Entries may include:
· Short Stories
· Poetry
· Essays
· Expository Writing
· Personal Narratives
· Any Other Original Student Writing
All works should be original. According to the county, original work refers to work that the student created without the help of others. Edits and revisions should be the work of the student.
We will submit one winner for each grade level. All entries must turned in to me by October 4th. A committee will select one winner for each grade level to represent GOES at the county level.
