What a WEEK!!
Wow! We have had one busy week!
MONDAY: We kicked off the Read to Feed program! Thank you for your support from home, whether through donations of money or just encouraging your child to participate in the reading!
WEDNESDAY: I hope that you were able to come out to school Wednesday evening to check out the Black History Museum created by all the students of JCMES! Our class visited the museum and learned about the contributions that both current and historical figures have made to our society. We learned about Rosa Parks, Thurgood Marshall, Barbara Johns, Lucy Simms, Bill "Bojangles" Robinson and Pharrell Williams! We did Maggie Walker and our rap was available for people to view. We also learned some new facts about her from the projects that the other 1st grade classes did!
THURSDAY: We had Walk to School day. Unfortunately, the weather did not cooperate for our outside walk in the afternoon, but we still wore our blue shirts and walking clothes.
FRIDAY: We have an assembly featuring the AXIS dance company. This is a company that includes dancers who have disabilities. We even got to send 3 of our students to learn to dance with the dancers. We had several who wanted to go, so we dropped names in a bag to choose our 3 dancers. Randy, Alliana and Anaya got to work with them on Thursday afternoon.
There is more excitement on the way! You should have received 2 papers this week in your child's folder about the spring Carnival. To make it a true success, we need you! If you can volunteer for 1 time slot for our class game, it would be so helpful! You can donate baked goods or come and buy items. All money goes to support the programs here at JCMES!! The 1st grade team is auctioning off the opportunity for your child to be the TEACHER FOR THE DAY!!! Stay tuned for more teasers and details to come!
