INFORMATION FOR 3-12 GRADE PARENTS REGARDING STATE TESTING FROM OREGON DEPARTMENT OF EDUCATION
Under the Student Assessment Bill of Rights, the Oregon Department of Education (ODE) and Oregon’s school districts must provide families with a “Notice of Statewide Tests and Opt-out Form”.
This year, school has been significantly disrupted by the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic and other factors. In response, ODE plans to ask the United States Department of Education for a temporary pause (also known as a “waiver”) in English Language Arts (ELA) and Math testing. A pause is also being requested for science testing, but science testing is not subject to this opt-out rule.
- If this waiver request is approved, then statewide ELA and Math testing will not happen this year, and there will be no need for parents to submit opt-out forms to their child’s school.
- If the waiver request is not approved, test windows will open on April 13th, 2021.
Please visit our Online Program webpage for Opt-out forms in English and Spanish. Should you so choose, please return your Opt-out form to your appropriate Online Program director.
Please scroll to access the weekly update for your grade level(s)!
Primary Level
Dear Primary Families,
Program Updates:
In January, February, and March I shared updates about teacher learning around the topics of identity, diversity, and justice. This month the primary program team will be focused on the topic of action which is part of Oregon’s Social Study standards and our district adopted lessons to address those standards. The Social Justice Domain of Action is so important because it allows students to take their learning and feel empowered to act. Actions might include talking to a friend or family about new learning, making posters, attending a march, or being a part of a campaign for change.
Each grade level team has created their own timeline for these lessons. They are integrating the topics into morning meetings, reading, writing, and/or social studies. We are excited about this learning and our partnership with each of you. As always, if you have questions please feel free to reach out to me or your child’s classroom teacher.
Have a wonderful weekend,
Jules Laaperi

WRAPPING UP Q3
Students currently have two weeks remaining in the quarter. They will be receiving their new and final FuelEd courses on Monday, 4/26. We are almost to the finish line! It is imperative that students wrap up their current courses and any incompletes they may still have so they are not overwhelmed with beginning their new courses. Also, something to keep in mind is that Q4 courses will not have any wiggle room for extending past the end date. All courses must be completed by the end of Q4 including all incompletes. If your student is overwhelmed with their work and you are concerned about them, please reach out to myself and/or our school counselor Tammie Lewis and we will meet with you to make a plan for your student that reduces their stress! It never hurts to reach out for help. That is what we are here for!
