Reorganization of the School Board Officers

The Board of Education presented Dr. Rochelle Redus with a plaque to thank her for her service as Board President over the past year.


In addition, the Board voted among themselves for new leadership roles, per board policy.

The new officers include the following: Mrs. Dorothy Williams, Board President; Mrs. Natalie Wankum, Board Vice President; Dr. Rochelle Redus, Board Secretary; Mrs. Valerie McLean, Board Disbursing Officer; Mrs. Cindy Temple, Board Alternate Disbursing Officer; and Mr. Tracy Steele, Board Legislative Liaison.


Board policy requires members to serve in their respective officers for one-year terms.

Board of Education Wins Top Leadership Award

Dr. Gregory J. Pilewski, the Superintendent of the North Little Rock School District, saluted the Board of Education on earning the 2022 Board of Excellence in Leadership Award at the Arkansas School Boards Association Annual Conference!

COE, Crestwood, Sixth Grade Campus Celebrated

The Board of Education celebrated students and staff at the Center of Excellence, Crestwood Elementary, and NLRMS - Sixth Grade Campus as a result of student achievement on the spring 2022 ACT Aspire.


Crestwood Elementary School and the COE will each receive money through the Arkansas School Recognition Program. Crestwood received high marks for being in the Top 6%-10% in student performance, which amounts to $24,200.00. The COE will receive $32,700.00 for being in the Top 5% in the growth/graduation category.


In addition, the Office of Education Policy at the University of Arkansas has recognized the Sixth Grade Campus and the COE with the “Beating the Odds” award. This distinction highlights schools from across the state that have demonstrated high growth on the ACT Aspire while serving students from low-income communities.


The Sixth Grade Campus ranked third in the state’s central region for growth in math on the ACT Aspire.


The COE ranked in the top 10 high schools in the state for overall growth on the ACT Aspire. The COE also ranked fourth in math in the central region and third in English Language Arts in the central region.

Update on Virtual Academy

Dr. Brouke Reynolds, the Coordinator of Innovative Virtual Learning Programs, provided the Board of Education with information on the NLRSD Virtual Academy.

Lawmakers Give Legislative Update

State Senator Linda Chesterfield and State Representative Carlton Wing, both of whom represent North Little Rock in the Arkansas General Assembly, provided the Board of Education with information on the 2023 Legislative Session. They expect topics surrounding education to be discussed early in the upcoming session.

LPPC Presents to Board

The LPPC, which is the Licensed Personnel Policies Committee, shared the topics discussed in meetings with the Board of Education. Among the topics include calendar options for the 2023-2024 school year, stipends, and teacher dress code.

All meetings begin at 5:30 p.m. and are held in the Boardroom in the Administration Building, located at 2400 Willow Street.
