Forever Endeavor
Endeavor Elementary Newsletter -- April 2019
Ms. Thistle's Thoughts
Greetings!
We are so happy that spring has finally arrived! It was a long winter, with lots of questionable weather and because of that, April 22nd will be a day of school for students. With the melting of all that snow, we will have some huge puddles on our playground. Please try to send along a spare set of clothes/socks for them in their backpack, just in case they have a little too much fun outside!
Starting at the end of March and throughout April our third through fifth graders will be taking the WI State Forward Exam. Please join us in encouraging your son or daughter to try the best that they can. The results of this test do matter and can be used to make determinations regarding future support. Making sure that kids get a good night’s rest and healthy breakfast before exam days always helps students. We are aware that this is just a snapshot of your child’s academics and does not determine who they are or what they are capable of in the future.
Please save the date: April 12th is the PTO Spring Raffle from 5:30-7:30 p.m. This is always such a fun event!
Thank you all for helping us keep our parking lot safe for students, parents and staff. I hope you and your family have a great month!

ART WITH MS. MARTENS
MUSIC WITH MS. JANES
Hello Endeavor Families!
This month in music we will be starting to work on songs and instrument parts for our spring performance! The spring performance will be a part of the family picnic and awards on the last day of school. More details will follow when we have a better idea of when that last day celebration will be.

COUNSELOR"S CORNER WITH MS. BROWN
Spring is finally here!! In K-2 classroom guidance, we will be wrapping up the Zones of Regulation lessons. Ask your child how to belly breathe, bunny breathe or how to do the drain, and see what they show you! Students have learned a handful of strategies to use when they feel themselves in need of calming down. 3rd graders are finishing up a unit on “How we treat others.” They will then have a quick review of the Zones of Regulation. In April we will begin our personal safety unit in the K-3 classrooms. Students will learn strategies that will keep them safe in different situations. Our main safety rule is “CHECK FIRST BEFORE YOU GO ANYWHERE WITH ANYONE”. Please work with your child on knowing your first and last names (parents) and one phone number that they would know in an emergency.
4th and 5th graders have recently completed lessons on how to identify and handle bullying situations, and internet safety. The 5th graders are starting a “Movin On Up” unit, on how to prepare for the middle school. We’ve had some great discussions so far!

NURSING NOTES WITH NURSE HON
Keeping our Children Lead-Safe
Was your home built before 1978? If so, your children could be exposed to lead in the dust from lead-based paint. Just a small amount of lead dust can cause learning disabilities, developmental delays, and other behavior and health problems for your child. Fortunately, you can prevent exposure to lead by making sure your home is lead-safe.
Get your young children tested for lead.
Get more information about how to protect your children and prevent lead poisoning.
LIBRARY MEDIA CENTER
In Mrs. Steinhaus' library class we have moved on from Flat Stanley to the Magic Tree House books. Have you had an opportunity to check out all of the adventures that our Stanley's went on? They will be sent back home in April.
In Mrs. Petrulis' library class we have started the next book in the Hank Zipzer series, I Got a "D" in Salami. In the UK, they have a television series based on Hank Zipzer book series. We were able to catch a glimpse of the first episode. Students were able to compare the actual characters on TV with the characters that they had imagined in their mind while listening to the book.
In Mr. Hammer's library class we are having a March Madness Book Competition. We hope to finish up in the next couple weeks. After the March Madness, we will be starting the next book in the Joey Pigza series, Joey Pigza Loses Control.
