Safety Matters Presentation
Dear Parent or Guardian,
This year, your child’s school will be using the MBF Child Safety Matters® program (the Program) from the Monique Burr Foundation for Children. The goal of the Program is to help keep your child safe.
The program empowers children to spot and respond to bullying, cyberbullying, child abuse, and digital dangers. Most importantly, it teaches that adults are responsible for their safety but there are things they can do to help adults keep them safe. The Program is based on the latest research and has been reviewed and endorsed by national experts.
Why does your child need a safety program?
» 10% of children are abused before their 18th birthday
» 14% of children have been solicited online
» 28% of students have been bullied
» 90% of children between 8 and 16 years have viewed explicit material online
The Program teaches about these dangers by:
» using age-appropriate, easy to understand language.
» playing fun games and activities.
» providing take-home items to remind children and parents of the lessons and Safety Rules.
When children are taught safety information and rules to help them stay safe, they perform better in school and enjoy healthier, happier, and safer lives.
You can learn more about the Program at www.mbfpreventioneducation.org.

Vision Screening
The MSD of Martinsville is partnering with volunteers from the Martinsville Noon Lions Club to facilitate State-required vision screenings for the following grades: K, 1, and 3 on December 5th. If your child is in another grade and you would like them to be screened, please send an email to lora.dilley@msdmartinsville.org and give your child's name, grade, and school.
The screening is a very simple procedure and will take only a few minutes. If you do not want your child to participate in the screening, please decline in a written note sent to the clinic.
No report will be sent home if your child passes the vision screening.
Letters will be sent home prior to the screening with dates set by our volunteers.

IMPORTANT
Arrival and Dismissal Procedures (Monday, Tuesday, Thursday & Friday)
- Doors open at 8:25AM (we do not have staff members available to supervise students before 8:25) Please DO NOT drop them off at the door prior to 8:25.
- Door 2 (by the cemetery) & Door 8 (by the car wash) are both options for drop off. It is your preference on which door you would like to drop your child off at. Please pull up along the sidewalk before letting your child out of the car. DO NOT allow your child to cross in front of cars. If your child is in preschool, kindergarten, or first grade, we would prefer that you drop off and pick up at Door #2.
Dismissal:
- Walkers will be dismissed out Door 2 & Door 8 first at 3:30PM.
- Next, the students riding buses and daycare vans will dismiss out of Door 2 at 3:35PM.
- Finally, car riders will be dismissed. If you are picking up your child, grades PK-1 (and older siblings) will be picked up at Door 2. Students in grades 2-4 will be picked up at Door 8. Please stay in your car as we will bring your child out to you.
WELL Wednesdays - Arrival Time & Dismissal
