Tiger Update
Information/Updates about Pickerington High School Central
Message from Mr. Lanier
Happy New Year to everyone and welcome to 2023. This is an exciting part of the year as our senior class have officially entered into their final semester at Central. We had a good first 2 days of the semester and are looking forward to all of the fun things that we will get to do.
The new year always brings with it resolutions that are focused on improving things in ourselves and in our surroundings. This is a great time to sit down with your student and do some goal setting with them. Pick an academic or a personal growth focus. Write it down with them and then develop a way to track it with them. Set goals that are attainable and then celebrate with your student when they are successful.
Let's Go Tigers,
Mr. Lanier

Ideally, students start as freshmen or sophomores so that they can finish all three years of the program, but upperclassmen are also welcome to apply and do 1-2 years of the program, as their schedules permit. Students enjoy off-campus adventures to locations such as Nestle in Marysville, Honda, the Grange Audubon Insurance Center, and multiple Columbus area colleges.

PHSC Counseling Office Weekly Update 1/6/23
Schedule Changes
Students who need a schedule correction/change must complete a request form for the appropriate counselor. Counselors requests form can be found in each classes google classroom. Our board policy (5421) dictates the following criteria in regards to the schedule changes we are permitted to make. Students should complete the request form to the counseling office and then check their school email and Infinite Campus within 1-3 days, to see if the change could be made.
To make a change to meet graduation requirements.
To balance classes between semesters.
To drop a class that was completed with a passing grade and need to adjust my schedule for that course taken and passed.
To drop a study hall in order to add a class.
Because an original request was not honored due to a schedule conflict.
To change a teacher - only if the student has had the teacher previously for the same course and he/she failed that course.
To change to adjust for special/alternative programming (IEP, LEP/ESL, Career Center).
To adjust due to an inappropriate course level dictated by the prerequisite.
The deadline to change a schedule is January 11. 2023
Career and College Symposium

Career Center Applications
Any sophomore who is interested in attending Eastland/Fairfield Career Centers next school year may NOW apply by going to this link. The deadline to apply is February 10th.
Attention Seniors!
Many colleges will require that you have your mid-year transcript sent. Please make sure to check the application requirements and make the request for your mid year transcript in Naviance. The directions are below.
Please remember that all Seniors must request transcripts at least 10 days prior to the application deadline! Here are the directions to request transcripts. Please make sure to add the college to “Colleges I’m applying to” AND click the box that says “Request Transcript”. Parents should bookmark this hub as a resource for planning for post-secondary exploration and opportunities as well as graduation information.
Financial Aid/Scholarships
October 1st was the opening day for Seniors to begin submitting their FAFSA. The Free Application For Student Aid, is the most important thing Seniors can do to get money for college. Seniors can also start searching for and completing scholarship applications. Here is a list of the scholarships our high schools have put together to help students locate scholarship opportunities. Fairfield County Foundation has over 130 scholarships for students who reside in Fairfield County. Seniors should definitely check these out. Applying is the only way to receive free money for college! The Senior Hub has a scholarship presentation with other scholarship resources. Now is the time to start this process!
Volunteers needed!
Your PHSC school counselors would like to offer career information to our students through people in the community sharing information about their careers. Anyone who would like to visit our school and present to our students about their career, should complete this career speaker interest form. The format/process would be similar to the college admissions visits which includes:: scheduling a 30-40 minute presentation in our media center, students register to attend, one counselor is present, teachers are notified. Speakers would be asked to share the following information: Day in the life of the career, training, average starting salary, best things about the career, demand, challenging things about the career, advancement/further training opportunities.
