2nd Quarter, January 4-8th
Happy New Year! I hope you enjoyed your time over the holiday break. We have enjoyed hearing the stories about all the adventures and activities the kids completed while they were out of school.
A few important reminders for this next week:
1. 6th Grade Formal is on January 22nd at 6 p.m.
The payment of $20 is due by Friday, January 15th.
2. EOQ's are next week on Tuesday and Wednesday. Please be sure that your student is on time to school, has gotten a good nights rest and had eaten a healthy breakfast.
3. Please remind your student to bring a coat to school. With the cooler weather we are not able to let students go outside if they are not appropriately dressed. Also, we DO NOT go outside if the temperature is below 40ยบ.
Language Arts/Social Studies
This week in ELA:
We learned how to look at arguments and claims in an informational text. Students practicing finding evidence in a passage to support the claim that the author is making.
Next week we will be having our last root word worksheet before we have our unit test over the root words. To help prepare, students should be studying all the root words that they have learned up to this point in the year. Next week students will be getting details about a book report project that they will be completing in 3rd quarter.
Finally, next week we will be putting more emphasis on Social Studies as well as studying some passages regarding Martin Luther King Jr.
Math
MATH
This week in math, students took another look at percents using cross products of a proportion to solve for unknown values. Students were given practice worksheets as homework to help refresh their learning of rates and ratios. The coordinate plane was also revisited. Next week students will take their 2nd quarter EOQ's. Take time over the weekend, to refresh your knowledge, by reviewing your "2.Q" icurio units.
