A Note From Mrs. Kesecker:
Dear Annapolis Gator Community,
YOU ARE AMAZING!!
Yes, you! Students, teachers, parents, grandparents, sisters, brothers, aunts, uncles…the list goes on.
Each and every one of you are doing your absolute best during these uncertain times. That makes you AMAZING.
You are adapting to new routines, a new way of life, a new normal. That makes you AMAZING.
You are supporting one another, whether it’s in your Google Classroom or in your neighborhood. That makes you AMAZING.
You are finding joy and laughter with family and friends, both far and near. That makes you AMAZING.
You are getting things done every day. That makes you AMAZING.
You are YOU! That makes you the MOST AMAZING!
It is my hope that you continue to find joy and happiness while we are apart. I hope you and your students are reading, socializing (from a distance), spending time with family, pursuing new hobbies and interests, exercising, sleeping, and practicing balanced screen time.
Families, if you are not doing these things, it’s OK. Do you and be you! Be gentle on yourself. Give yourself grace and patience. Try to embrace and enjoy this family time and stay healthy.
In partnership,

Dear AES Parents and Families,
While this was not the way we predicted to end our school year, we are all going through these changes together and finding ways to stay connected with one another! To get through these “school-at-home” days, here are some tips adapted from the experts from the Center on PBIS on keeping healthy and happy relationships at home!
- As much as possible, set routines - the more consistent your child’s routines and schedule are, the easier it will be to support positive and prevent challenging behavior at home. This could look like regular bed & wake-up times, scheduled “school” time and planned time for breaks and play.
- Remind and reward positive behaviors with praise like, “I’m so proud of you! You are working so hard on First in Math, even when it’s tough”. You may also try giving them their choice of a preferred activity as a reward for good behavior as well (they get to choose a game to play, help to make a meal in the kitchen, choice of a family movie, etc).
- Be creative to find ways to connect with peers – whether it’s through an online platform, facetime, or other types of virtual playdates, try to take breaks to connect with others.
- Model and promote emotional wellness - everyone reacts differently to stressful situations and how you respond will make an impact on your child and the other individuals in your household. Take breaks from the news or social media. Take care of your body by engaging in deep breaths, stretching, exercising, and getting plenty of sleep. Make time for an enjoyable activity and connect with others by talking to them. Modeling these behaviors will not only help you but will show and teach your child how to cope during stressful situations. It is important to continue to monitor your needs and your child’s and contact your healthcare provider if you have immediate or ongoing concerns.
Please join me with your child on my google classroom called “School Counseling with Mrs. Beckman” (class code 6new7cg) where we are practicing coping skills together. These include identifying feelings, talking to safe adults, positive self-talk, the importance of exercise and movement, deep breathing, and practicing gratitude. Soon we will be exploring college and career interests and getting excited for the transition to the next grade level – and for some, that means middle school! Remember to ask your child to watch the morning announcements posted in their google classroom and recite the Kids at Hope Pledge daily as a reminder that they are capable of success, no exceptions!
As always, I am available to talk/text, email, or meet virtually to help support you and your child’s needs. Please don’t hesitate to reach out, I would love to connect with you! Above all else, I hope you stay healthy & happy during this challenging time.
Sincerely,
Mrs. Beckman
