Good morning!
This week we kick off BLACK HISTORY MONTH.
During the month of February we will be showcasing and learning more about HEROES IN AFRICAN AMERICAN HISTORY.
We will start the month with an introduction to HEROES through an all school, shared text. Kids will be introduced to HEROES by hearing the book from multiple NG adults this week. We will connect this to our deeper dive into HEROES IN AFRICAN AMERICAN HISTORY during the month.
I am excited about this format of One School/One Book and encourage our families to check out the text we will be using, Superheroes Are Everywhere. We have purchased 55 copies from our friends at Eyeseeme Book Store in University City so every adult at NG has easy access to weave the text into their day.
We have created the read aloud video below to welcome our families to the conversation and invite you to talk with your kids about some "big thinking" questions:
What makes a hero?
Who gets to decide?
Does a hero to YOU have to be a her to ME?
Have a great week!
Respectfully, Jennifer
Registration for 2021-2022!
Kindergarten registration is in full swing ~ please start the registration process at kirkwoodschools.org/register.
It is recommended that a laptop computer, desktop computer, or tablet device be used to complete registration. Registering using a smartphone is not recommended.
Enrolling now allows time for schools to plan for maintaining desired class sizes.
We are also enrolling kids in grades one through five for 2021-2022. I am always happy to talk through any enrollment quesiotns you may have.
PTO is Tuesday!
The bond proposal has a huge implication for NG in that it would allow for a new, safe and secure entrance to be constructed. We are currently the only elementary WITHOUT a secure entrance. Unfortunately, we are living in times when the security (and peace of mind) that would come from a new entrance is critically important.
Click HERE for the agenda for the meeting.
We will send out a zoom link before the meeting.
Picture Re-Takes are Thursday February 4 for In Person and KAH Kids!
Proposition R - Right for Kids, Right for the Community
A Zero-Tax Rate Change Proposal Would Address Overcrowding, Safety and Security Challenges, and More
Faced with overcrowded classrooms and a lack of adequate instructional space in its schools, the Kirkwood School District Board of Education unanimously voted on Monday, Jan. 25, to place a zero-tax rate change bond proposal on the April 6, 2021 ballot.
The proposal, called Proposition R, is a ballot issue designed to provide the financial resources to address overcrowding and maintain class sizes with additional classrooms, update aging infrastructure and systems, enhance safety and security district-wide, and complete additional needed facility 22updates. If approved by voters, every building in the District would be improved. Proposition R requires 57.143% voter approval.
Prop R does not include a new elementary school building.
