The Iran hostage crisis was a diplomatic crisis between Iran and the United States it developed over a period of 444 days, during the government of president Carter on November 4, 1979 to January 20, 1981.

The impact in the United States

President Carter applied economic and diplomatic pressure on Iran: oil imports from Iran were ended on November 12, 1979.

During the weeks leading up to Christmas in 1979, high school students created Christmas cards that were delivered to the hostages in Iran.
