60 Years in Education!
Every Moment Matters!
Important Announcements
A Message from the Principal
On behalf of the Buckingham Staff, welcome to the 2015-2016 school year - our 60th-year educating students! We are very excited about the first days with students! Teachers and staff had been working around the building - beautifying the grounds and readying the classrooms - hoping to make the best "first impression" in this new school year!
Throughout the year, The Mighty Knight Connection E-Newsletter will be published to keep parents informed with school and PTO happenings. In addition, please be sure to visit our school and teacher websites as a means of communication – and know we will continue to update and modify information so it is current and informative.
Again, welcome to what promises to be a wonderful 2015-2016 school year - Where Every Moment Matters at Buckingham!
Mr. Karl Funseth, Principal

Dismissal Changes
If it is necessary to change your normal pick-up routine at the end of the day, (i.e., a different adult, bus rather than car, car rather than bus, a change in child care arrangements, etc.), a written-note must be presented to the classroom teacher, who will share the information with the office.
Any phone calls regarding a change in end-of-day plans must be directed to the office before 3:15 PM through a phone (267 893-4200, dial zero for the office) or via e-mail (buckingham@cbsd.org or jepetrie@cbsd.org) and not directly to the classroom teacher, as they do not pick up phone calls or messages during the instructional day.
District Wellness at Buckingham - "Food as Reward / Birthday Treat" Policy
Buckingham Elementary enjoys recognizing our students' birthdays by providing some time with classmates to celebrate during the school week. We know that our students appreciate sharing these special moments with their friends and it helps build a strong and supportive classroom community.
We also know there are many ways to celebrate school birthdays. There are to be NO Birthday FOOD-RELATED treats - to coordinate and align our school practices with the mission of our district's wellness policy. In addition, we have children in our school population with severe health restrictions that do not allow them to eat what other children bring from home. Nor do we expect every parent to fully understand, grasp and adhere to the specific dietary restrictions for each of our students with severe allergy profiles.
There are many fine alternatives to food-related treats that can be used - and several websites are available that share excellent/practical ideas to use in class. Please work with your child's teacher when planning for a birthday and they may be of help in guiding your decision if you choose to bring a non-food treat.
This policy does not change "balanced menu" approach for our 3-planned school parties (Halloween, Winter, End-of-Year) coordinated by our PTO/Homeroom Parents. Nor does it change "Daily Snack from Home" for each individual child.
Thanks in advance for your support of this policy.
Peanut/Tree Nut-Safe Classrooms
As in years past, many Buckingham classrooms have students with severe peanut/nut allergies and those classrooms will be identified as peanut/nut safe classrooms.
Please keep an eye out for additonal information from your child's teacher regarding the impact of being in a peanut/nut safe classroom. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact our certified school nurse, Nurse Randi at 267.893.4215.

School Enhancements - Summer 2015
In addition to our 60th Anniversary Project - our Brick Patio - the summer saw many building projects that focused on beautifying Buckingham and maintaining a safer school for students and staff. The work of our summer crew helped to clean and prepare the hallways and classrooms for the start of the school year.
- Our front gardens, courtyard and sign were beautified in August in preparation for students and staff.
- Our stage and auditorium received new lighting to help increase the "Stage Presence" for our many student Performing Arts groups.
- Projectors were hung in every classroom - avoiding wires as tripping hazards.
- New sidewalks were installed for safety around our building, as well.
Certainly a school we can all be proud to attend!

Box Tops 4-Education
One of the simplest ways for the school to earn money is through the Box Tops program. Buckingham earns 10 cents for every Box Top we collect and on average we have earned over $1,200 dollars a year!!
Families and students are asked to save Box Tops and bring them in to their classrooms. PTO organizes and facilitates contests several times a year. Box Tops can be found on many items including Betty Crocker products, Avery, Kleenex, Cheerios, Pillsbury, Juicey Juice, Hefty and Ziploc just to name a few. Send in your Box Tops to your child’s class anytime during the year and watch for announcements about contests.
