Bobcat Pride
Sunset Valley Elementary - week of January 29 - February 2
The Principal's Den
These students did a fantastic job of sharing what they learned in Science or Social Studies this week and why they think it is important to learn. They are certainly showing their Bobcat PRIDE by being dedicated to their learning. This principal is VERY proud!
Thank you Benjamin, Jacob, Josiah, Emma and Caleb !

Early Dismissal
We are still noticing more and more families are asking to sign their students out on or after 2:45 pm. We do understand that many times it is for a doctor's appointment that has been scheduled right after school but we've also noticed many families are doing this to avoid traffic out front. If you need a quicker way to pick up your child, please consider changing your pick up to GYM PICKUP. By doing so, you will avoid the long line of cars out front. You would park in the back parking lot, walk inside, pick up your student in the gym, and walk directly to your car and leave the parking lot. Call the front office and/or email your child's teacher in advance if you wish to make this change. Remember, school is in session from 7:55 am- 3:10 pm.
Beginning Monday, January 29th, we will no longer call down any students for early dismissal after 2:45 pm unless it is for a specific appointment. We will be putting up a sign near the front entrance as a reminder. Our office staff will verify with you if you are picking up for an appointment. If not, you will be asked if you would like us to have your child meet you in the front office after the 3:10 dismissal bell. They will also make sure that you are parked in a parking space and not along the curb.
Keeping Bobcats Healthy
Has your student been sick? Please remember students cannot attend school until fever free for 24 hrs without medication or clearance from a doctor. Any positive flu tests should be reported to Nurse Liz or anyone in our front office. We have to report our numbers to the State Department of Health, which helps track flu cases.
Let's keep all our Bobcats healthy! Take your kids to the doctor & keep your kiddos home if they are showing signs of flu!!

Lunch Time
K-4 teachers want to make sure you were aware of a few lunch procedures at SVES. We believe that lunch is a time for all students to socialize and eat their lunch in order to continue to learn as much as possible throughout the rest of a child’s day. We know it is important to allow children to have unstructured breaks where they can learn and grow socially. We have two expectations that we have put in place across all grade levels at SVES that we wanted to make sure you were aware of.
1. End of lunch, silent lunch- As a school we noticed a problem of excess food waste. Not all children were finishing their food in the 30 minutes allotted for lunch. We will begin implementing a silent lunch time during the last 5 minutes of lunch in order to encourage all students to focus on eating all of their food and having time for their desert, if they had one.
2. Parent/child lunch- We highly encourage you to come visit with your child during lunch. We would love for you to come join us any day. We have two tables set up close to the doors that you can sit at. We ask that it be a special time for you and your child. Due to food allergies and the safety of all children, we have a school policy that only you and your child have that special time together.
If you have any questions, please feel free to contact us. If you see a note coming home about needing your support during that last 5 minutes of silent lunch, please know we are looking for ways to help all children finish their lunch. We are very grateful for your support to help us do what we can to best support your child.
