A Message from Ms. McKay
What a wonderful first week of school Dike-Newell families!! Thank you for all of your patience, support, and enthusiasm in coming back to school. It's so nice to see our students who are returning to us, and we've enjoyed getting to know our new learners.
In the first few weeks of school we are very busy learning routines and procedures, as well as diving into our academics for the year. It has also been really warm for us all. Please, don't be surprised if your little ones come home very tired and sometimes even emotional after the first few days. Coming back to school can be a tricky transition, and often when little ones have worked hard all day to hold it together, they can fall apart a bit at home for parents. That being said, if you feel your child is showing an undue amount of stress or anxiety please reach out to the classroom teacher or our guidance counselor, Natalie Dean (ndean@rsu1.org) so we can be aware and help to support your child.
Dike-Newell firmly believes in supporting the WHOLE child - this means we take time to play, we build social skills, and we work on so much more than academics. We also pride ourselves on taking care of whatever a child's needs might be - we stockpile extra clothes and shoes, and we always have extra snacks. If your child has outgrown clothes (from size 3-4T up to 10-12) we would love to take any gently used donations for our clothing closet, including extra sneakers, and we always appreciate donations of shelf-safe snacks such as goldfish, cheez-its, other crackers, fruit snacks, and granola bars.
Have a great weekend, and we will see everyone for a cooler second week of school on Monday!

Happy First Week of School! The PTA is so excited about the 2023/2024 school year. We have lot of events planned for kids and families to enjoy.
Please join us this Friday 9/8 at the DNS playground for Popsicles with the PTA from 6:00 to 7:00. The Girl Scouts will also be there with free face painting.
We are also looking to fill some empty board positions. If you are interested in being on the board this year we will be having a short meeting after Popsicles with the PTA from 7-7:15.
