SGE Family Newsletter

For the Week of April 25 - April 29

Estimados Padres,

Mrs. O’Hair

Directora de la Escuela Elemental de Shady Grove

Action Requested - Parent Survey!

Dear Parents,

You as parents are children’s first and most important teacher, and you know your students best of all. Last week Mr. McBurnett wrote regarding a survey we would distribute to all staff, parents, and secondary students for the purpose of informing our strategic planning process in the fall. Please consider completing the anonymous survey by following the link below. Your investment of time and thoughtful responses will help us strengthen our District into the future.

Thank you,

Dr. Rachel Jones

Assistant Superintendent of Curriculum and Instruction

Bulldog & Lady Dawg Summer Camps

The dates for the Bulldog & Lady Dawg summer camps have been released! To sign up for these camps, use the following link and click on "Summer Camps" at the top of the page.

Our Lost-and-Found racks are full! We have sweaters, hoodies, coats, lunch boxes, and water bottles. If you're missing something, have your child swing by the Lost-and-Found.

The racks are currently placed in our foyer. Be sure to take a quick glance if you're visiting on campus. Any unclaimed items will be donated at the end of the year.

Behind the scenes at SGE last week...

Shout out to our "Caught with Character" kiddos this week! Teachers had the following to say about these students:

-When he was delivering something to another teacher for me, he waited quietly upon entry in the teacher's classroom because he didn't want to interrupt her.

-He is always so kind and polite!

Commendable manners!

Academics + CHARACTER = Success

Spirit • Pride • Honor

Ongoing Reminders and Quick Links

Is your child celebrating a birthday? Feel free to send individually wrapped birthday treats for your child's class. The teacher will serve them at an appropriate time according to each class's end-of-day schedule.

Please keep in mind the "individually wrapped" condition when planning the treat to send with your student. Individually wrapped treats minimize exposure to extra handling.

Car Line Reminders

-Are you parking on Harvey St. by the grove of trees to drop-off in the morning? If so, please walk your child to a staff member in the front of the building rather than sending him/her to walk alone. Please also avoid blocking residential driveways and bus traffic.

-As a reminder, cars must remain in a single file line on County Road 200. Once in the school's driveway, cars may merge into the appropriate PK/K or 1st/2nd grade lane. (We have observed that some cars are driving past the line of cars on CR 200, turning into the fire lane, and then cutting into their lane in front of all of the cars who are following the appropriate car line procedures. Be kind in line!)

-No in-person pick-up after 3:00pm until the car line is finished. As we work to dismiss our students in a timely and orderly fashion, we must keep the front entry/exit doors uncrowded. As a result, parents needing to check their students out must do so before 3:00pm or after the car line is finished.

Other general reminders:

-Help us keep the line moving as quickly and safely as possible by staying in your car, seating your student on the right side of the vehicle, and giving goodbye hugs and kisses before the drop-off line!

-If adults need to exit the car for any reason (to walk student in, to help student unbuckle, etc), please park in a parking space and walk your child across the crosswalk.

How do I request a change in transportation?

-student's full name

-student's grade level

-student's homeroom teacher

-the transportation change you want made for today (bus to car, car to bus, etc)

In order to ensure a smooth dismissal process for all students, requests made after 1:30pm will not be processed. Notes, phone calls, text messages and emails sent to any other email will not be processed.
