KECC Family Update
August 31, 2020
Dear KECC Familles,
Good afternoon to you! We hope your family has had a wildly positive experience as we have launched into our fall session together. It has been so wonderful to have all of you back on campus. Our teachers have enjoyed getting to spend time with their new learning community. From all signs here, we feel that the transition has gone well. As we shared in an earlier communication, we realize that it is a different kind of year. However, we promise to make it the absolute best it can be in every way!
We definitely want to thank you for all you have done in the recent weeks to actively partner with us. From locating new classrooms to turning in paperwork from a distance; to learning how to utilize Brightwheel to helping with our safety protocols - you all have been amazing to say the least. We couldn't be having these positive shared experiences without your commitment to the many changes!
Make it a great week,
Mandy Rose, KECC Principal (Mandy.rose@kirkwoodschools.org; 314-213-6136 x 3601)
Mary Pat Blaskiewicz, KECC Assistant Principal (Marypat.blaskiewicz@kirkwoodschools.org; 314-213-6136 x 3602)

It is a strange year! We will miss seeing everyone's faces in the school hallways and communicating both in person and with mailbox fliers. Due to these circumstances, it is more important than ever to follow the KECC PTO Facebook page for consistent updates on school news, school needs, events, meetings, and more.

KSD NOW (Nutrition on the Weekends)
KSD NOW – Nutrition on the Weekends – is a program that provides bags of food on the weekends during the school year for students in Kirkwood School District experiencing food insecurity. The concept is simple: Children in Kirkwood School District at risk of weekend hunger receive a box of food that is nutritious, child-friendly, nonperishable, and easy to eat.
Within the Kirkwood School District community, there are children who only have access to nutritious meals during the school day. In fact, about 12% of students qualify for free and reduced lunch – equating to over 700 students who are experiencing some level of food insecurity. Recognizing the hunger gap, Kirkwood School District staff members and parents have joined together to create KSD NOW to help address this need.
Due to Covid, things have changed slightly and instead of weekly deliveries to the schools, we bring together volunteers monthly to pack the food boxes and are delivering to the families the same day, discreetly and confidentially. We also provide families participating in KSD NOW access to free Thanksgiving dinners, special birthday surprises, and additional food over long breaks.
We are always in need of volunteers to help pack food. Please email Leah Myers at leahnmyers@hotmail.com if you are interested in helping.
Another way to help is to donate, as every dollar helps to feed our families!
