April Newsletter
Dodgeland Elementary School
Can you believe it is April already?
The weather is starting to warm up, but recess can still be pretty cold some days. Please remind your children to have their coats, hat, and gloves for a while longer. The wind on our playground is quite cold some days. Before we know it, spring will be here and we will be putting them away again, just not yet.
This month we celebrate the Week of the Young Child. There will be dress up days and other ways to celebrate our youngest learners. It is also the month that our 3rd-5th graders will take the Wisconsin Forward Exam. See below for more information.
Have a great month Dodgeland!

Third Grade has been having a wonderful year! We have created strong relationships with our classmates and are getting ready for 4th grade. From learning how to be assertive to telling time to the minute to learning how to code in Project Lead The Way, we are having fun!
In Guidance With Ganser, we’ve been learning how to be assertive and advocate for ourselves. We’ve also learned how to have empathy for others. We got to celebrate Miss Ganser’s hard work in creating beautiful souls in all of us during National School Counseling Week!
In reading, we thoroughly enjoyed Because of Winn-Dixie! It’s one of our favorite reads alouds all year. We are now into the Dyamonde Daniel series and are diving deeper into getting to know our characters along with why they do and say things.
In writing, we gave a persuasive speech! The kids brainstormed, wrote drafts, edited, revised, conferences, published, and gave wonderful speeches on topics they’re passionate about. Some topics included: reasons and examples why friends mean so much to them, persuading their audience why Culver’s is the best, and why we need more sleep at night. It was very impressive to hear their thesis statement as well as their reasons with specific examples and a strong conclusion.
We just concluded our Project Lead The Way module on coding. We found out what “bugs” can do to a program and we used teamwork skills to tell a story in our programmed piece.
In math, we are deep into fractions and relating them to telling time. We are also becoming strong experts in our multiplication and division facts. Our problem solving skills are growing our math talk is getting longer!
Here’s to finishing the year in a focused and fun way! We are coming for you, 4th Grade!
