Mrs. Ernst's and Mrs. Nolan's Classes
Theme of the month: Families
Theme vocabulary: celebrate, holiday, relatives, thankful, together
Monday
Story Time- Click on the video to watch Mrs. Nolan read Celebrations. After the video, the children will be creating a graph to see which celebration your family members like best. Please have your child ask their family to write their name (or a parent can write the names) on the graph to show which celebration is their favorite. We have included the graph in your bag of supplies- "Favorite Celebration". After completing the graph, you can talk to your child about the results. Ask them questions such as, "How many people like to celebrate Halloween?", "Which celebration do most people like?", "Which has the least?", etc...
Tuesday
Story Time- Click on the video to watch Mrs. Nolan read Clifford's Birthday. After listening to the story, children will watch a lesson on patterns. Following the pattern lesson, children will create their own AB pattern using the pictures of red and blue balloons that are in their supply bag. You or your child can cut the balloons out. Then spread the pictures out on a flat surface. Remind your child that a pattern repeats and that today they are going to use the red and blue balloons to make a pattern. Help your child place the balloons into a pattern- they can start with either a red or a blue balloon. Their pattern should follow a sequence such as: red balloon, blue balloon, red balloon, blue balloon, red balloon, blue balloon, etc... When your child has successfully created an AB pattern, they can glue their pattern onto the included sentence strip. Please put the completed pattern back into their supply bag to be returned to school.
