February Newsletter
Cottonwood School
Greetings Cottonwood Families
Hello Cottonwood Family,
Our first month of 2021 sure went by quickly! Our teachers have done an amazing job creating relevant, engaging lessons and activities that align to the standards that our students are expected to learn. Your continued efforts to have your children log-in to class, engaged, with cameras on is a big piece of the puzzle to ensure that they have a successful second semester and learn all the skills needed to move forward. Cottonwood Cubs and Cougars ended the month participating in the Great Kindness Challenge and celebrating with our Middle School Awards Assembly.
Did you know that our students have an opportunity to receive 24/7 tutoring help with our virtual partner Paper? Paper can be accessed at the following link: https://app.paper.co/ and then using Clever or the HUSD student email to log-in. Please take advantage of this free resource as they will help in all subject areas, including reviewing any writing assignments prior to the due date!
As a reminder for February, there will be no school from the week of February 15th - February 19th. We will resume instruction on Monday, February 22nd. Let’s continue showing the determination needed to achieve our academic and character goals!
Win the day,
Mr. Stearns

Character Corner
For the month of February our school will emphasize the character trait of "Determination." Determination can be described as overcoming obstacles in order to reach my goal. It is important to have our children identify academic and personal goals and help them develop a roadmap to achieve their goals! The constant reminder of what determination is and how to practice this skill will be vital in them having a feeling of success. Please lead a discussion with your children using family members as positive examples of someone who uses determination.
We would love to see our students in action demonstrating our character trait! Please e-mail any pictures of your children to Mrs. Niaves (aniaves@hemetusd.org) demonstrating determination in school, around the house or the community so that we can showcase their efforts!
Weekly Habits for Success
Weekly Habits for Success
It is our goal at Cottonwood School to ensure that our students have the tools and habits to be successful in whatever they choose to pursue. Our staff have been emphasizing "Weekly Habits for Success" with our students to help fill their "tool belt" with specific skills. You can help by having a discussion on these habits and how they translate to success in the real world. Below are the habits that were emphasized in the month of January:
Tolerance (Friendliness)
Finding Humor
Taking Responsible Risks
