EMS Raider Student & Family News

April 18 - 22

A Message from Mrs. Venegas

Hello Raider Family!

Thank you for another wonderful week of school. We are now 80% of the way through this school year and, before we know it, the last day of school will soon be upon us. Before we end this school year, we will have a few more celebratory events in honor of our students.

We want to make sure every Raider finishes their time this school year doing their absolute best. They should be completing all assignments/tasks to their best ability and according to teachers' directions. They should be on time to every class period, every day, so that they maximize their learning opportunities. They should be following all campus and district rules and policies to help ensure safety and a smooth end to the school year. We thank you in advance for encouraging your Raider to do and be their best every day!

On May 14th, our EMS Student Council will host our 8th Grade Formal. Tickets will go on sale beginning May 2nd. This dance is a great way for our 8th graders to celebrate their time with us and prepare for their high school experience. Our 8th grade Advisory teachers will share more information with their students this week.

On June 1st, we will host our End of Year Awards Assembly. We honor our top ten 7th & 8th grade students (as determined by GPA), our perfect attendance students, and two Raiders from each teacher's class that have stood out from the rest in terms of achievement or growth throughout the year. We look forward to celebrating the accomplishments of our students.

On the last day of school, June 3rd, we host our campus-wide field trip to Western Playland. Tickets for the field trip will go on sale mid-May and both grade levels are able to attend. Students must be in good standing with attendance and discipline to attend. It's been quite a while since we were able to celebrate in this manner with our entire school and I assure you that a fun time will be had by all!

We cannot achieve what we aim to without a solid partnership with our families. We value each one of you and hope that we are giving your Raider and your family a memorable and positive middle school experience. As always, I thank you for your trust and support this school year.

Enrollment/Registration and Transfer Request Update

We currently have 33% percent of our current Raiders who have completed online enrollment/registration. THANK YOU Raider Families for making your child's school registration a priority! We are aiming for another increase within the next week. Remember, completing this step now will save you time and ensure your child is ready for the next school year.

We have received over 320 transfer requests for next year. Our campus administrative team will review each one on an individual basis and make recommendations for approval or denial according to district policy. We thank you in advance for your patience as we have many to review and will contact all families as soon as we can.

Online Enrollment/Registration Free Dress Winners

CONGRATULATIONS to the additional 138 Raiders whose families completed online enrollment/registration by our first incentive deadline!

A separate email and text message will be going directly to their families letting them know they will have FREE DRESS all week next week (April 18 - 22). These students will receive a free dress bracelet on Monday morning indicating their permission to be in free dress all week.

Students who received free dress last week are NOT ELIGIBLE for free dress this week. Their next award will come when 100% of their Curriculum Enrichment class completes registration.

**Any students found to have altered their bracelet or shared it with friends who should not have received it will receive a discipline referral and not be allowed to be a part of any other campus incentives.

School dismisses at 4:00 pm and it is our campus practice that EVERY Raider heads home safely right away, if not involved in a school-sponsored event. However, many of our Raiders have been staying after school quite late to hang out and/or wait for rides home. Some of them share that they travel to Album Park to hang out or wait for rides.

While we understand that our Raiders LOVE to socialize with their friends and hang out with each other, unfortunately for some, it can lead to mischief or more. We are disappointed to report that it has come to our attention there have been a few negative incidents taking place off of our campus property involving some of our students. We have been investigating these incidents, and working with YISD central office, EPPD (if necessary), and the families involved.

We are staffed to ensure the campus is safely cleared by 4:30 pm, so in the interest of student safety, Raiders should be picked up as close to 4:30 as possible. If the arrangement is for your Raider to be picked up, we ask that while they wait for their ride they continue to conduct themselves according to school rules and expectations.

We thank you for your support and partnership in making sure all of our Raiders are safe.

When Should Your Raider Be Absent? (COVID-19 absence guidance)

  • Students who are vaccinated, asymptomatic, and not directly exposed to a COVID-19 positive case should come to school. YISD considers these absences unexcused.

  • Students who are vaccinated and asymptomatic, but exposed to COVID-19 should come to school as they are low-risk contacts. YISD considers these absences unexcused.

  • Students who are unvaccinated and directly exposed to a COVID-19 positive case, vaccinated with COVID-19 symptoms, or are awaiting COVID-19 test results should remain home. Contact our attendance clerk for proper attendance coding and our nurse for health guidance. YISD considers these absences as excused once parent contact has been made.

  • Students who test positive for COVID-19 should remain home and quarantined. Contact our attendance clerk for proper coding and our nurse for health guidance. YISD considers these absences excused once parent contact has been made.

Raiders should arrive to school at 8:15 am. This is when we let all students upstairs to their classes and breakfast in the classroom begins.

All Raiders must attend all of their scheduled classes. Everyone attends from 8:30 am - 4:00, except for zero period students who attend from 7:35 - 4:00 pm.

Attendance for every class period is required and they must be in attendance for 90% of the time each class is offered. Please work with us to make sure your Raider has healthy attendance habits. Attendance is essential to learning but is also a part of our state accountability measure.

Thank you in advance for helping your Raider get to school on time and promoting the expectation for good attendance.

Eastwood Middle Campus Contacts List

2021-2022 YISD Parent Satisfaction Survey Update

This annual survey is designed to gather feedback from our Raider parents and learn more about your experiences with us this year. We look forward to this survey's results as it shows us how to better partner with you. Additionally, it also lets us know what you enjoy about your Eastwood Middle experience and allows us to pass along kudos and thanks to the people that made a positive impact on your Raider and your family.

As of Friday, we have received 128 responses, which is 12.4% of our student population. We want to hear from 100% of our parents, so I humbly ask that you take a moment to complete the survey and share with us what you loved about EMS and/or suggestions on how we can improve. The direct link to the survey is https://bit.ly/YISDparentsurvey22. I thank you in advance for taking a moment to give us feedback on our service to your Raider and your family.
