Message from your Proud Principal

We've had a busy week here at Parsons! Thank you to everyone who attended one of our two Curriculum Nights. These nights were filled with collaboration between home and school which supports our students' success. As a busy mom, I know how difficult it is to juggle life events. If you were unable to attend, please check your child's eClass page. Teachers will be sharing their slide show for you to view.

Let's hear it for all the dads and special visitors who attended ALL Pro Dads this morning. We had a packed house. The message was powerful. It focused on the most important thing we can give our kids...OUR TIME! Our school community is filled with parents who value time supporting their child's education. This is one reason why our school is so GREAT!

Enjoy your weekend and take TIME to have fun and rejuvenate before we take on another busy week!

Proud Principal,

Mrs. Clark

GCPS Host Virtual AKS at Home Sessions on August 23-31

As part of Gwinnett County Public Schools’ family engagement initiative, the school district seeks to empower parents with tools that allow them to help their children at home. Our AKS at Home project provides math and language arts resources to support families of children in grades K-5 so that they truly are partners in their children’s learning. This support is available for families to access in the format that suits them and their schedule best. They can attend live virtual meetings, view recorded information at a time that best fits their schedule, and gain tips and suggestions on how to best help their children through tip sheets on a wide variety of topics. Health Guidelines to Minimize the Risk of COVID

GCPS schools have established reasonable and precautionary practices within the school to minimize the risk of infection and/or spread of COVID-19. Guidance is subject to change based on updated recommendations from the CDC/Department of Public Health and will be communicated to local school HRT members.

  • Parsons will provide opportunities for regular handwashing.
  • Parsons will implement the custodial schedule/processes to clean high touch areas during the school day.
  • Administration, along with guidance from our local school Health Response Team, will clearly communicate and follow COVID-19 criteria for return to work/school in consultation with county nurses.
  • Face coverings are required for all staff, students and visitors.
  • Visitors will have limited access to students.

Headphones

Please make sure that your child has headphones. Many of the programs that students use at school require headphones to hear the audio. You may send in your own wired headphones from home or you may purchase them on MyPaymentsPlus. If you purchase your own headphones and send them in, please label them with your child's first and last name. Thank you for helping our teachers by making sure that your child has a pair of headphones for the computer.

District III Area Board Meeting Information

This fall, the Gwinnett County Board of Education will go on the road, meeting once in each Board member’s district. At this year’s Area Board Meetings, attendees will have the opportunity to meet Gwinnett County Public Schools’ new Superintendent, Dr. Calvin J. Watts, and members of the Gwinnett County Board of Education. During the meeting, Dr. Watts will share information about the new school year and his focus as he begins leading Georgia’s largest school district. In addition, meeting participants will learn more about the district’s work to engage the community and will be able to provide input through an online survey to share topics that are of interest to them. Please note that interpreters will be available at all meetings to assist participants who speak Spanish, Korean, Vietnamese, or Chinese.

The 2021 Area Board Meetings are organized by School Board district. Families from Parsons are encouraged to attend the District III Area Board Meeting at North Gwinnett High School on August 31st. However, citizens may attend any one of the five meetings.

Welcome new School Council Members

We would like to welcome our newest School Council members to the Parsons School Council board ~ Mrs. Sheila Garrett, Mr. Charles Hwang and Dr. Lindsay Linsky.

Afternoon Transportation

All transportation changes must be made in writing. Whenever you need to make a change to your child's afternoon transportation plan, please complete an Afternoon Transportation Change Form in the front office no later than 12:00 PM the day of the change. We will utilize this form to create the appropriate afternoon transportation pass. Please remember the GCPS Bus Rule: no passes will be issued for play dates, birthdays, weekend sleepovers, etc. For security reasons, we DO NOT accept transportation changes through phone calls or emails.

Student Check Out

Anyone checking out a child must present photo identification and be listed in our system as someone able to have access to the student. If you need to make changes to your list of approved emergency contacts, you may make changes on the Parent Portal or stop by the office to update this information. As a reminder, students may NOT be checked out after 3:00 PM. For assistance in updating contact information on the parent portal, please visit https://www.gcpsk12.org/Page/11430.

Update: Suspending Visitors During Lunch

Due to the recent rise in Covid cases across our state and the role we play to minimize the risk of spread in our school, beginning Monday, August 30th, we will no longer allow visitors for lunch. It is our hope the numbers will decrease and we will be able to open our cafeteria for visitors in the near future. Thank you for your continued support as we work together to ensure our students' safety.

Schoolwide Reading Program

We are so excited that our Schoolwide Reading Program will begin on September 1st and continue through March 31st. Please see the attached parent letter for more details. Your student can also visit the Parsons ES Media Center eCLASS page for a how-to video. Students will access Biblionasium through their student portal via the Media Catalog. We hope all our students will participate, complete the program, and receive the reading reward in May!

Little Free Library at Parsons

We are excited to have a Little Free Library at Parsons! Our community library will be registered with Little Free Library and have a charter sign and number. The library will also be listed on the Little Free Library map for our community to know where to visit. It is located near the car rider lane. It is filled with all types of books including Young Adult and Adult books. Building Community, Inspiring Readers, Expanding Book Access for All is a mission of Little Free Library. Little Free Library is a nonprofit organization with more than 100,000 little libraries worldwide. Take a book and share a book at a Little Free Library today and enjoy.
