Words from the Woods

August 2019

Open House for students!

We are looking forward to launching the new school year with all of our Woods families!

Open house : Monday, August 19, 9:00-12:00

We will use an open house format this year, and invite students to come in to introduce yourself,

find your locker, walk your schedule, and say hello to your advisor. Course information will be available for students.

An evening session for parents will be held in September--be on the lookout for details.

As ever, please reach out with questions, curiosities, or concerns.

The First Days

August 20 and 21 are Early-Release days.

School will be in session 8:20-12:20.

Lunchtime Study Hall

A supervised study hall will be available Monday through Thursday each week from 12:45-1:12.

Students may opt in or be assigned by a teacher.

This is a great opportunity to get some help, catch up on work, or plan ahead!

School Supplies

Students need supplies!

All students MUST have some form of planner. School planners will be available for $5 in limited quantities.

Please check the HS supplies list on the Woods website.

Schedules and Drop/Add

2019-20 schedules will be posted in PowerSchool.

There will be an in-person drop/add opportunity on August 12.

Students who want to make changes should check their email for the Schedule Change Request form.

Please contact your advisor with any questions.

About Athletics

Information and schedules can be found here.

Remember, all students athletes must have an annual physical on file with Athletic Director Dena Floyd.

Contact dfloyd@woodscharter.org for more information.

The College Planning Process

Planning for college is an ongoing process! It's crucial that families consider all the options, and get as much information as possible.

Here's a list of some of the resources we find useful.

There will be upcoming class meetings for families of juniors and seniors for information and support (dates to be determined).

District C

Opportunities abound! Woods students often participate in outside-of-school programs that offer all kinds of room to grow. Learn more about District C, one outstanding program that we partner with (also here and here).

The application period will be announced prior to each District C cycle.

Student Project: Classroom Plant Drive

Woods families are encouraged to help out and donate easy-to-grow houseplants for Woods high school classrooms.

Did you know?

Plants reduce sickness and absences in school by lowering the amounts of carbon dioxide, as well as other toxins within the air. Plants relieve feelings of tension and anxiety by 37%, promoting focus in class.
