Read to Achieve Notification Letter

By law for all students in 3rd grade, and recommended for K-2, who are identified at risk (red or yellow), we must notify parents in writing. This letter should be given at conferences or sometime soon this month. Please place a copy of this letter in the purple folder to show you did notify parents. If the child is not tiered--we will place it in the cum folder.

Just a reminder--we also notify parents when their child is placed on Tier II. At the beginning of the year, you gave a letter at conferences. If you have a student who is new to the Tier process--they will need this letter sent as well. Place a dated copy in the purple folder.

I put a copy of these in your boxes so you could have them on file. If you would like to modify the notification letter to be more personal that is fine. The point is that you document notifying parents when a child is not on grade level in reading. This is part of the Read to Achieve Law. 1-2 teachers can mention that there will be Summer Camp for students. We do not know how many will be allowed to attend but we do know that a percentage of our students will have that opportunity.

SST Meeting

We will start this at 1:00 to discuss retention

1-1:20 Schwandt

1:20-1:40 Willis

1:40-2:00 Connor

I have sent out a document called: SST Student Talking Points for Meetings

You do not need to fill this out if your bringing a student for retention but if you are bringing a student to SST you will need to fill this out.

1. Once you sign a student up for SST, please make a copy of the talking points form.

2. Name the document the child's first name and last initial.

3. Fill out the documents with info/it does not have to be in complete sentences and perfect. This document has two purposes. The first purpose is for you to think through the student's data and have the info in front of you in one place. Secondly, it helps the team have specific information they need to help problem solve and think through your student's needs.

4. Share this with me.

Thank you for all you do. I know this has been a daunting process but I hope you will think about where we were a year or two years ago. We have come a LONG way and are doing things SO much better.

If you have questions, please let me know.

I think I have fixed this so you can access but if not--send the request and I will grant you access.

Conferences the Week of 22nd

Reminder all Mid Year Tier II paperwork should be reviewed and signed by a parent. This will document that you have shared the data with them and their child's progress. This is a good time to get the parents involved in the plan. Can the parent time the student 10 minutes extra reading time, do flashcards, computer time on Moby Max or reinforcement games etc.? Adding a parent piece helps to hold all stakeholders accountable. It is great documentation to show reinforcement or even a deficit.

P.S.

I know juggling lots of things is hard--believe me! I am here if you need me and please help one another during this crazy time of deadlines and paperwork. If you need to stop by and review your calendar with me--please do! I have to review mine daily (sometimes many times during the day). We can do this together!!
