Safety & Security Update
Schools now have two points of controlled visitor access at main entrances.
USD 232 is pleased to share that all schools now have two points of controlled visitor access at main entrances. The update to our physical security is part of our continuous improvement process to help keep students safe when school is in session.
What can I expect when visiting the school?
We will always strive to make our schools warm and welcoming environments for students and families, balanced with the need to implement simple security measures.
Families are already familiar with the video/intercom door access system at each main entrance, which has been in place since October 2018.
New! Once a visitor is granted access through the main door, the interior vestibule doors will now remain locked. This creates an additional safety barrier for our school. If visitors have a need to enter the office area, then office staff can electronically grant access through the interior vestibule door.
We believe this simple addition to our safe schools protocol will help enhance our overall safety commitment to our students. And, as a reminder when thinking about school safety, if you see or hear something that concerns you, please say something so that we can investigate and involve law enforcement, if necessary.
Community Service Event--Toy Drive
Students can sign up to participate after school from 3:45-4:45pm. Please note our younger students (K and 1st) will need to be accompanied by an adult in order to participate. All students will need to be signed out by an adult at the end of the activity. Each event will start with a brief introduction to the organization we are serving and a little bit about how our work will make an impact. We hope students are able to draw the connection to the "why" we serve while we participate in the hands on activity.
Our next event will be FRIDAY December 16th from 3:45-4:45 PM supporting Shawnee Community Services!
SIGN UP BELOW and Indicate: Student’s Name – grade & teacher
Students will wrap donated gifts to be distributed to the families that utilize Shawnee Community Services for support. This is there annual holiday party and families line up for blocks to see Santa and get a toy. For more information about this organization visit https://www.scsks.org/
