A Note From the Maynard Sustainability Committee

Wishing you all a great start to the school year!

We are seeking the school community’s input for the town’s climate action planning (CAP) initiative. This CAP work will include data from the attached survey, future public workshops and ongoing public engagement, culminating in a plan of action to prepare Maynard for the climate heating ahead. The input of young people, educators, parents, and all members of the school community living and/or working in town is crucial. We are eager to hear from you.

Thank you!
Kate Wheeler

A Funky Recommendation by Mike Barth

Families, I have wanted to tell you about a great family experience my wife Kelly and I have been doing for the past 5 years. The 3-day FreshGrass Music Festival is held each year at MassMOCA in North Adams. It's called Freshgrass because it's a mix of more traditional bluegrass with lots of genres such as rock, reggae, blues, roots, Americana, and country music. Artists we've seen include the Indigo Girls, Old Crow Medicine Show, Trampled by Turtles, The Mammals, Steep Canyon Rangers (without Steve Martin unfortunately), Del McCoury, Jade Bird, and Mavis Staples. This is only about a quarter of the AMAZING artists who come and play. This year we even got to hear Skip Marley play many of his grandfather Bob Marley's songs, and man was it a killer set! If you've never seen Alison Brown play banjo with her family band, that alone is worth the price.

This year it was great to run into Jasper Weeks and his family from Maynard, who have been coming for a few years. It's always in September, and always cold camping in a soccer field with gorgeous fall Berkshire weather, great craft beverages, and some of the Fall colors starting to show. FreshGrass always makes me think of Maynard - how funky, gritty, progressive, and cool the townspeople are. Many of you taking the time to read this review would really love attending this festival with your spouse/partner, or even bringing the kids! As for me and Kelly, this is our special and sacred weekend, so we leave them with grandma to have their own special time. Tickets are already on sale for 2023, and yes we have already purchased them! Maybe I'll see you there!

Note from Maynard Booster Club

We are a group of volunteers who raise funds to provide annual scholarships, trophies, letterman jackets for student athletes and support to individual teams as needed with special requests.

Fowler School athletes are also recognized with middle school sports awards at the end of each season at our awards night. We would love for some more Fowler Families to join us!

We have a great Booster store where we offer Custom Maynard Tiger Team apparel. We also have Fowler School apparel on the site. Show your Tiger Pride. The store link is

We primarily raise money through concessions and trophy sponsorships. We are looking for Fall Shack volunteers to help out at soccer games, Friday night football games and field hockey senior night all of which will be held up at Alumni Field. Be ready for our sign-up genius emails that go out to the athlete families. We have many jobs that don’t involve volunteering in concessions as well.

We are looking for fall trophy sponsors right now, the cost is $35 per trophy. If you own a business or are a family that would like to give back, please reach out to us at

Please follow us on Facebook (Maynard Booster Club) for important Booster updates. We meet the second Wednesday of each month unless otherwise noted in the MHS Library at 7pm…our first official meeting is on September 14th kindly join us!

The Green Meadow Elementary School project team has submitted its second MSBA submission! This submission is called the Preferred Schematic Report (PSR) and it advances the initial existing conditions verification, educational visioning & programming and Owner / Community coordination into multiple design alternatives, shows MSBA the design alternative evaluation process taken by the project team, and highlights which design alternative was ultimately selected at the end of the process.

Below is a link to a Google Drive folder that contains the previous Preliminary Design Program (PDP) submission as well as the recent PSR submission. As always, we thank you very much for your attention to the project, and we’ll continue to keep you informed as the project moves along the MSBA process!
