Weekly News & Notes
Week Ending October 14, 2022
News Briefs
2. Last week, our students had the opportunity to meet with Representative James McGovern, our town's Congressman, who came to UHS on October 5. He met with students who asked questions about the conflict in Ukraine, voter rights, healthcare, and government spending, as well as recent challenges faced in Washington that could impact students and citizens. The Congressman spent nearly an hour answering questions. We appreciate the effort of Mr. Silbor to secure such a rich learning experience for our students.
3. Next week as part of National Principals' Month, our school will welcome Representative McKenna and Senator Fattman to UHS. Both of them will spend some time shadowing our school administration to get the "feel" of work at UHS.
4. Congratulations to the golf team for its second-place finish at this week's SWCL championship, highlighted by Cam Caso's individual championship! Last week, Aidan Ross also took an individual championship at the Bay State Invitational held in Devens, with a scorching time of 15:51.7.
5. For those interested in seeing where our fall teams are landing in the rankings for postseason opportunities, the MIAA posts its power rankings at https://miaa.net/power-rankings/.

Emergency Responses at UHS
There are three types of drills that are required for all staff and students in all school buildings during the school year:
Evacuation/Fire Drill – is used when it is important to move away from the building to a secure location away from the building. These drills will take place at least four times per year under the direction of the Uxbridge Fire Department.
Shelter in Place – is used to protect staff and students from incidents and/or distractions that are taking place in the hallway. A hold in place implies that instruction should continue within the classroom, and that students should remain in the classroom until further notice. These drills will take place at least two times per year.
Lockdown – is used to protect staff and students from a threat inside the building. It is to be used when it may be more dangerous to evacuate the building than it is to stay in a secure classroom within the school and utilize tactics from ALICE training. These drills will take place in coordination with the Uxbridge Police Department.
We generally call for a shelter-in-place when there is a medical situation that requires confidentiality. We also will communicate the purpose and reason for these almost immediately after. We realize the temptation to text and call, but we will do our best to keep people as informed as possible.
