PANTHER PROWL
CIMARRON MIDDLE SCHOOL October 2018
PRINCIPAL'S MESSAGE
Dear Cimarron Families,
Our young scholars need support socially, emotionally, and academically in and out of Cimarron Middle School. As educators and families, we each need to have a shared understanding of our student’s learning. Working together we will be able to meet their academic and social-emotional needs to ensure Learning for All.
Teachers are looking forward to meeting with you on either Thursday (10/11) or Monday (10/15) from 4:30-8:00 pm to exchange insights into your child’s learning and development.
These very important conversations are typically guided by questions such as:
In which area(s) is my child doing well?
In which area(s) does he/she need to improve?
How can I help my child at home?
What other resources are available to support my child?
Our educators will listen and willingly share strategies for success that will help each young man or young woman develop the self-confidence and skills to face and conquer the challenges on the road of life.
After the conference: So what comes next?
Whether your child was present or not, it is important to discuss with your young scholar the information shared at the conference.
Recognize your child for doing well or making progress toward a goal.
At a separate time, discuss areas for improvement identified by the teacher.
Listen to what your child has to say, and encourage them to express both successes and strategies for further improvement.
Make an agreement with your child on how you will monitor and support his or her progress.
I hope you will continue to communicate with your young scholar’s teachers on a regular basis and remain active in the education of your child.

PARENT PORTAL FAQ
"How do I add a contact to pick up my student if I’m unavailable or can’t be reached?” or
“One of my student’s emergency contacts got a new phone. How do I get the number changed in your system?”
Both of these are easily addressed using your Parent Portal. On the left-hand side, choose the option for ‘Demographics,’ use the plus sign at the bottom, add or edit the information for the contact, and submit. This needs to be done for each student in your household, then our registrar will make the necessary adjustments. If possible, having at least two contacts is helpful in the event of illness or emergency, and keeping your contact information current throughout the year is very important.
PERSONAL DEVICES
In remaining consistent with our middle school practice, personal devices will be allowed prior to the first school bell at 7:40 and after the last bell at 2:40.
We recognize that personal devices are part of the everyday world we live in as well as our future, and know the amazing capability that today’s technology brings to our life. We are seeking to increase classroom engagement and reduce outside distractions, and we appreciate your support in this transition. Should a need arise for an urgent message to your child, we will be happy to help with that communication through our office at 405.340.2935.
THE STORK HAS ARRIVED!
These babies will be used in 6th, 7th, and 8th Grade FACS classes to reinforce the childcare unit covered in class and in our special needs classes to assist students in life skills. These are amazing babies and do most things a real baby does.
Thank you to the Edmond Public Schools Foundation for the opportunity to qualify for a grant which funded the purchase of our babies. These RealCare Babies are a wonderful curriculum enriching activity for our students.
