Message From the Principal
It's so unbelievable that the start of June is next week. For me this year has simply flown by. As the year begins to wind down, please know that we keep kids engaged in learning through the very end of the school year. Of course there will be time the last day or two for kids to clean up and organize their things, help the teacher clean up the classroom (kids love helping with this), and have some fun time as well. Teachers create such strong relationships with their students that it's hard to see them leave their classroom for the last time. We will all soak up the time we get to spend with our students through the last day of school--June 21.
Our 3rd grade students completed the required state assessment, (SBA--Smarter Balanced Assessment) this week and they worked very hard. The rest of the students respected them and were extra quiet in the hallways during the testing times. I'm very proud of our 3rd grade students for their hard work and concentration. We still have several students who need to complete the assessment due to absences, but we will ge those made up over the next several days.
Have a wonderful 3-day weekend!
Sincerely,
Pat Webster--Head Learner

A Note From Your School Counselor: Grief and Traumatic Stress
School staff, administrators, students, and families have experienced heavy hearts and a wide array of emotions this week as we learned of another horrific school shooting in Texas. This event is one in a series of tragic and challenging events our nation has faced in the course of the last few years. Cumulative stress is being felt by many, if not all, of us. Please know that we are here, as a school community, to support our students, families, and each other as we process recent events. It is good to review safety procedures with your children for home and school to help reassure them. Additionally, let them know to speak up and report to a trusted adult if they see or hear something that seems unsafe or dangerous. If you believe your child is in need of further support, reach out to your child’s teacher, school counselor, or medical or mental health provider. Below you will find resources that may be beneficial to you as you navigate these challenging times.
“Over the course of the last few weeks, reports of mass violence and shootings have plagued the news. Although people are resilient and often bounce back after difficult times, these events nearly always interrupt our sense of order and safety. The impact often extends to individuals who live far outside of the affected area with no personal connections to the event. This is especially true when the event is human-caused with the intent of harming others.” American Counseling Association, counseling.org/knowledge-center/coping-in-the-aftermath-of-a-shooting

Final Week to Check Out Library Books
Next week, May 31st-June 3rd, will be the last week that students may check out library books at LTES. Please help your students return ALL books by Friday June 10th. That gives us time to complete our inventory before the last day of school.
We hope your students will find plenty of books to read this summer! We encourage you to visit the Sumner or Bonney Lake library and explore the Pierce County Summer Reading Program. Getting a library card is easy and FREE!
Happy Reading!

From the District Nurse
Dear Dieringer Families:
We are nearing the end of the school year, just a few short weeks to go. Our staff, students, and families have shown amazing dedication and resilience for the past two years.
Since last spring, our top priorities have been to maximize in-person learning and slow the
spread of Covid-19. Our community has come a long way since the beginning of the school
year, however Covid is still present and impacting students and staff in our schools.
Covid case numbers have been going up in our community, and hence in our schools, for the
past couple of weeks. We would like to maintain a strong finish to the school year with healthy students and staff as much as possible. With that in mind, please remember the following to minimize the spread of the virus:
Wash hands frequently, and keep students home when they are sick. Test them for Covid with
any of the following symptoms not caused by a known chronic health condition. You may call
your school’s nurse or health technician for more symptom-specific guidance:
Fever
Chills
Cough
Shortness of breath/difficulty breathing
Muscle or body aches
New loss of taste or smell
Unusual fatigue
Congestion/stuffy nose
Runny nose
Sore throat
Nausea or vomiting
Diarrhea
If your student develops symptoms while at school, we can test them here with a rapid antigen test. Curative also has a PCR testing site at Auburn Memorial Stadium, 801 4th ST NE. The current hours are 7:30 am -1:30 pm Monday through Friday, and rapid PCR tests are available.
For more information or to schedule an appointment, please visit
https://book.curative.com/sites/34106 . Appointments are preferred but not mandatory.
*Please note: the Auburn testing site at 2400 Perimeter Road will close effective June 1st.
We have had some outbreaks in classrooms in our district. Our goal is to slow the spread of
Covid. It is possible that if we continue to see outbreaks, we may need to reevaluate our
requirements, always consulting with the Tacoma-Pierce County Health Department. Please
remember that masks are optional, but strongly recommended when exposed to help minimize the spread of the virus.
