Wilson District Newsletter
May 2023
A message from Mr. Rose
It is hard to imagine that it is time for the May newsletter. Where did this year go? Parents and students are preparing for promotion and graduation parties and teachers are carefully planning ways to keep students engaged right up to the last day! It has been an outstanding year with many successes coming in academics and teacher growth. We continued to strengthen our AVID strategies while also working on district-wide PBIS implementation.
We have increased our communication efforts with our presence on our website, Twitter and Facebook. The Wilson Dream Foundation has proven to be an amazing partner supporting our staff and students. We have welcomed a number of new staff members throughout the district who have done a wonderful job this year. And finally, I have seen many wonderful examples of teachers, students and community partners all working together to make sure ALL of our students are able to learn, grow and experience academic success. This is what is important to me as the leader of this district, this is what makes what can sometimes be a difficult job so gratifying. And this year, we have rocked it.
I want to personally thank the staff here at Wilson Elementary School District for all your hard work and dedication to the entire Wilson Community. It is because of each of you that Wilson continues to provide high quality services and instruction.
Let’s keep working hard to end this year on a positive note, keeping in mind the impact we have on the future with what we do with EVERY STUDENT, EVERY DAY!
Ernest Rose
Superintendent
Wilson Primary School
How is it that we are entering the last few weeks of school? This year has gone by so quickly. They say, “Time flies when you are having fun!”, and that is exactly correct! We had such an amazing time watching our students grow socially, emotionally, and academically this year.
With our implementation of PBIS, we saw growth in student behavior and confidence. Our Check-In and Check-Out process brought positive outcomes to so many of our students. They practiced being reflective about their learning expectations and monitoring their accomplishments. In addition, we implemented many programs to promote positive behaviors this year. We started the Golden Spoon Awards, Be Chef for a Day, Best Attendance Incentives to just name a few. Along with PBIS, we continued to look at data, collaborate, and adjusted our support for social emotional learning through our counselor and our community partners to ensure that we were meeting the needs of every child.
We are so proud of the incredible growth our students made this year. They truly worked hard each day and gave it all. Our teachers and staff were intentional when planning lessons and ensured that every student was demonstrating the targeted skills. Parents and the teachers were partners in the students’ education through family engagement events and by Class Dojo for constant communication. It really makes a difference when families and the school are partners.
As we wrap up the year, I want to thank you for all of you who have supported our schools and students. We are planning for another great year next year. Please stay tuned for upcoming events and information.

As we approach the end of the school year, we want to take a moment to thank you for your unwavering support throughout the academic year. Your involvement and encouragement has been a vital part of the school’s success and your child’s education.
We are proud to share that this year has been filled with many accomplishments and achievements. Our students have excelled academically, creatively, and athletically. They have challenged themselves to think critically, explore new ideas, and embrace diverse perspectives. We commend them for their hard work and dedication, and we know that you share our pride in their accomplishments.
None of these accomplishments would have been possible without your support. Whether it was volunteering to chaperone a trip, attending school events, or simply encouraging your child to do their best, your involvement has been invaluable. We are grateful for your partnership and the positive impact it has had on our students and our community.
As we look ahead to the next school year, we are excited to continue to be a part of your child’s education. Our faculty and staff are committed to providing the best possible educational experience for your child, and we are confident that with your continued support, we will achieve even greater success in the coming year.
We wish you and your family a wonderful summer and look forward to seeing you back in the fall!

Community Center
Wilson Community Center thanks every one of you for an amazing school year! We had many great events and collaborations with our stakeholders. Our programs and classes exceeded our expectations of providing the community with the knowledge and resources needed. Our most current event was our annual Health/Spring Festival. The community was able to take advantage of free mammograms from Arizona Complete Health, health screenings from Mezcoph Phoenix - Primary Prevention Mobile Health Unit, games and activities from Hands on Greater Phoenix, book mobile, food trucks, a generous donation of hotdogs from St. Vincent de Paul and pastries from Panaderia y Carniceria Guerrero. Over 50 organizations provided free resources and services to the community.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank the AVID Site Teams on both campuses for their hard work this year! In particular, Roberto Gonzalez and Linda Lopez did a fantastic job leading these teams. You truly made a difference in the lives of your students. I would also like to say a fond farewell to Ms. Elek, an amazing AVID elective teacher, who will not be returning next year. You will be missed!
Speaking of the AVID elective, there will be a meeting for the parents of all fifth-grade students on Tuesday, May 2nd at 4:00 in room #522 on the Wilson Elementary campus. During this meeting, we will explain the purpose of the AVID elective offered in 6th-8th grades and go over the application process this year's fifth-grade students must follow in order to potentially participate next year. In addition, the final AVID Parent Night of the year will take place on May 16th at 4:00. Ms. Brown has prepared a great learning experience for all of us to enjoy. We hope to see you there!
In closing, one of my favorite quotes is "Education is not the filling of a pail, but the lighting of a fire" -William Butler Yeats. Fires need to be fed in order to stay alive. I would encourage you to feed your child's hunger for learning this summer by taking them to the library, participating in Wilson's summer school offerings, visiting the zoo, or anything else that will keep your child excited about learning. Have a fantastic summer!

Business Services
The school year is wrapping up. Students have accomplished a mountain of material; teachers have graded a mountain of material. What a fantastic year!
We, in Business Services, extend our thanks to the staff and administration for the opportunity to provide support in IT, facilities, transportation, food service, procurement, audio/visual, and finance. We know there were some glitches along the way… We started the year short staffed, and we are ending the year short staffed. Yet, we have accomplished maintenance, cleaning, driving, IT support, upgrades in security – facilities and IT, improvements in procurement processes, students were provided breakfast and lunch, field trips and sporting events have gone off without a hitch, and financial reporting has been accomplished.
So, to all of you, thank you for the opportunity serve you, to act as your support portion of this great team that is Wilson. Have a most wonderful summer! We look forward to seeing you in the fall.
