A "Zoo"per Time
We continued our Animals Around Us theme by reading books about zoo animals and doing various related activities. We colored peacocks, put googly eyes on snakes, cut zebra stripes, matched halves of different animals, and used our pincer grasps to stick animal stickers on the letter A. With our friends from Room 15 and Room 4, we played in our zoo dramatic play area by putting all the water animals in the "pond" and building enclosures out of blocks for our other animals. Outside on the playground, we played with an Easter egg sensory table and matched colored pompoms to plastic eggs. Ms. Brianna led an animal hunt to find tigers, lions, elephants, birds, and giraffes; we sang Going on an Animal Hunt and walked on the balance beam, stepped over the ladder, and climbed through the tunnel!
This week speech rotations were all about following directions. We listened to a song called Animal Actions, where we pretended to be different animals (e.g., flying like birds, hopping like frogs, etc.). We also read a book called From Head to Toe, where we identified animals, as well as followed directions involving various body parts (e.g., turning our heads like penguins, clapping our hands like seals, etc.). During P.E., we enjoyed doing scooter board activities! This helped us work on our upper body and leg strength, motor planning, and bilateral coordination.
