Persephone
Kidnapped
Persephone
she is a happy, sunny girl who loved spring time. She also was the daughter of Demeter.
Demeter
God of the harvest and mother of Persephone.
Flower picking
- One day Persephone was picking flowers and could not get enough, though her basket was overflowing. Then she found the most beautiful flower that she must have called a narcissus. Just as she got to the flower she heard a deafening noise. The earth split at her feet. Out came a golden chariot pulled by black horses.
Kidnapped
Hades took Persephone back down to the underworld. For he had fallen in love with her and longed for her to be his bride. He told her that no one escapes from the under world. Those words made her shiver at the thought that she would be locked up in this ghost jail. She became hades' queen. Though he gave her a gold crown and fancy jewels she couldn't bare the thought that she would never see her mother ever again.
Demeter looks for her daughter
Demeter hears her daughters scream. She leaves Olympus in disguise. She calls her daughter but never gets an answer. She said she would not eat nor drink till her daughter was found.
Zeus
Zeus begged Demeter to produce fruit again. She replied that she would never do so until her daughter returned. Zeus new he must take action. He sent the messenger to retrieve Persephone. Hades did not protest against this but he had her eat before she left. She ate 4 pomegranate seeds then returned home.
Return home
Persephone was reunited with her mother but Zeus made her return to hades for 4 months because she ate 4 seeds. So for 4 months of the year it is cold and the rest it is sunny for the return of Persephone.
