VIRTUAL STUDENT LEARNING SCHEDULE WEEK OF SEPTEMBER 28th - October 2nd
Advisory is REQUIRED
This is a reminder to students and families that Advisory is a required course. Advisory takes place during the last period of each day from 2:50 pm to 3:15 pm. Attendance is taken in advisory. It is of utmost importance that students attend in order to nourish their socio-emotional wellness, create consistency & community with an advisor and classmates. Attending ensures students receive important school-wide information and life-skill training. If you have further questions please reach out to your grade level counselor.
Celebrating Hispanic Heritage Month
The Board of Education has proclaimed Tuesday, September 15 to Thursday, October 15 as Hispanic Heritage Month. Throughout the month, MCPS schools will be celebrating the unique culture and traditions of students, teachers, staff, and community members who trace their roots to Spain and other Spanish-speaking countries in North America, Central America, South America, and the Caribbean.
Hispanics are the fastest growing ethnic group in MCPS, with 32 percent of the student population, representing 21 Spanish-speaking countries. We want all MCPS students, parents/guardians, and staff to celebrate with us! Share a picture that represents your Hispanic heritage and MCPS may feature it in a virtual gallery. E-mail pictures to pio@mcpsmd.org. Watch this video for more information.
MAP-R Make-Up
Make-up testing will be held for students who missed MAP-R testing or who did not complete testing. The testing will be held on Tuesday, September 29 (11:45-2:30) and Wednesday, September 30 (9:00-11:40). If your student needs to engage in make-up testing, your child will get an email with all of the information including the Zoom link for testing.
We appreciate all you have done to help students understand the importance of being present and engaging in this diagnostic opportunity.

Students may request breakout rooms to talk with their friends or speak in Spanish, Portuguese, or French with other students or staff members.

Be Well 365 Recovery Plan: Social Emotional Learning (SEL) Lessons
In compliance with the Maryland State Department of Education Guidance for Phase II fall reopening, MCPS is coordinating concrete steps to address the physical, social, and psychological needs of our students, families, and staff. The goals of the MCPS Be Well 365 Recovery plan are to:
Communicate to students, staff members, families, and the community that “MCPS Cares”
Reassure students, staff members, families, and the community that each and every person is valued and heard
Recognize that many of us have experienced trauma during the COVID-19 school closures; however, within that trauma, we may have experienced it at different levels and to different degrees
Support students, staff members, and families in a culturally responsive manner that focuses on equity and anti-racism.
