Geneva Family Gnome News
November 2019
Note from the Principal
It has been great to see many of you in the building during our Parent Teacher Conferences. We will continue meeting with families through most of the month of November. Conferences are an important and meaningful source of information for our teachers; we value your partnership!
When you arrive for your conference, you will see there are computers set out in the common spaces outside classrooms for your easy access to take the annual district survey. If you prefer to do this at another time, I have included the links below. We value your perspective and appreciate the opportunity to reflect and learn about our work at Geneva.
As always, if you have any questions or feedback, I would love to hear from you. Thank you for sharing your child(ren) with us. You are your child's first teacher; we are grateful for all that you do!

Message from PTA
Hi Geneva Families,
We are planning to provide soups, salads, fruit and desserts for teachers on Thursday night during evening conferences. This is a long day for teachers since they will have taught all day, and then move right into meeting with us about our kids.

Thanks for helping us care for our teachers!
Our 2019 Jog-a-Thon was big success!
Parent volunteers, Cyndi and Sarah inspiring greatness
Teacher Emma Bodin empowering students
Volunteer Emcee's Jason and Michelle brought the fun!
You are the real superheroes!
I'd like to thank you for your generosity and support of the Jog-a-Thon fundraiser. Our PTA went above and beyond to make the event fun, organized and productive. The dollars raised support students and families in a variety of ways. Some examples are: funding teacher specific requests, funding fieldtrips, funding our school garden, and hosting the monthly family events sponsored by the PTA to name just a few.
Below are our local business partners who generously supported Geneva through this event. It really does take a village!
Mustache Recess
To celebrate exceeding our schoolwide jog-a-thon goal, we hosted a surprise mustache recess this afternoon. All children and adults were given a mustache to wear to recess, and as you can imagine, hilarity ensued!
If your child comes home with some ridiculous mustache puns today, I apologize in advance. I'd love to stay and chat, but I really mustache!
Veteran's Day Assembly
Please help us honor our Veterans next Thursday, November 14th, at our Veteran's Day Assembly. There will be a special PowerPoint celebrating Veterans of Geneva Families. We will begin this assembly at 8:15. We hope you can join us in honoring and expressing our gratitude to the men and women who have served or are serving our country.
Gratitude Lunch
On Thursday, November 21st, we will host our first annual Geneva Gratitude Lunch. Roasted turkey and mash potatoes are on the menu, but the main course will be the recognition and acknowledgement of our appreciation for one another.
In positive psychology research, gratitude is strongly and consistently associated with greater happiness. Gratitude helps people feel more positive emotions, relish good experiences, improve their health, deal with adversity, and build strong relationships. In other words, practicing gratitude is an important skill for all of us.
Your child is included in this event regardless of whether or not their lunch is from home. You might ask your child(ren) in the days leading up to the event which people or things bring them gratitude. Children will have an opportunity during the event to share with their peers using the microphone during the lunch.
Fall Feedback from Families: please complete before November 22
If you have not yet taken the annual survey, please set aside 5-10 minutes and help us collect important information about how our families and students experience our school. We use this confidential information to help us know what we’re doing well and what we can improve on.
For your convenience,we will have laptops set out in the common spaces outside classrooms during conferences with the survey ready to go.
