News From The Principal

As we approach the first 9 week grading cycle, I encourage you to talk with your student regarding his or her classes. As we continue to develop our middle schoolers, we always want them to create a self-awareness on how they are progressing. Our goal is to have each student become an advocate for himself or herself. This practice will ultimately help your student become a mature and successful learner. Please continue to be in a partnership with teachers. Together, we can do it.

Destination Imagination

The HMS PTA is assisting in organizing teams for Destination Imagination (DI). “The mission of Texas Destination Imagination is to encourage and foster the development of 21st century skills: creativity, problem solving, critical thinking and collaboration; to influence development of a positive self-image; and to prepare the students of Texas to apply creative problem solving skills to life decisions.”

Want to know more? Check out this site - Destination Imagination

The first step in this process is to identify how many students are interested in being on a DI team and how many parents are willing to be a team manager. Students will be expected to meet with their groups 1-3 hours a week October-December and 2-5 hours a week in January and February. As you can see this is a time commitment. Team Managers will need to be prepared and run these meetings by following the guidelines here . There will also be training for all new team managers available in the next few weeks.

If your child is interested, please fill out this on-line form and submit it so we have an idea as to how many students would like to participate, which challenges interest them, and how many possible managers are available to help.

If you have any questions, please contact Chessa Knight at Heritage Middle School. chessa.knight@gcisd.net

PSAT 8 - For 8th Graders

On Wednesday, October 14, Heritage Middle School 8th Graders will administer the PSAT/NMSQT®, a test that showcases the classroom skills and knowledge that are essential for college and career readiness and success.

We encourage your child to take advantage of the many benefits the PSAT/NMSQT offers:

  • Connects students to colleges and universities across the country, and to scholarship organizations.
  • Prepares students for the new SAT® and college and fuels practice recommendations on Khan Academy®.
  • The College Board has teamed with Khan Academy® to provide personalized Official SAT Practice — totally free. In the future, students will be able to link their PSAT/NMSQT scores to Khan Academy for practice recommendations that will hone their skills for the SAT, college, and career.
  • Matches students with AP® courses that make the most of their academic strengths. AP classes can provide an edge in the admission process, and an opportunity to earn college credit.
