Dear Mustangs,
This has been a marvelous start for 2019-2020 school year! I truly thank you for your support and trust as we kicked this year off. Your children have entered our building with smiles and hugs. There is nothing more satisfying and rewarding than the excitement of children at the beginning of school. We are truly blessed here at Midway!
A very important thank you is also extended for your patience and adaptability in our morning drop offs and afternoon pick ups. You have honored my request to be observant and careful as the safety of each child is our priority. You rocked with understanding as we worked through moving cars that first morning...truly rocked this!
I continued to be filled with gratitude during our first day dismissal as many of you smiled and reassured me as I tried to personally apologize in our first day's dismissal on the bus loop for 5K, 4th and 5th grades. We were unable to move any cars until we had concerns on buses resolved and you truly were patient and kind. A very humble thank you from me! My heart is full from your kindness and understanding!
Please note that we have Parent Orientations next week:
Monday, 6:00 p.m. -- 3rd Grade Parent Orientation
7:00 p.m. -- 5th Grade Parent Orientation
Tuesday, 6:00 p.m. -- 2nd Grade Parent Orientation

7:00 p.m. -- 4th Grade Parent Orientation
There is a districtwide night for Boy Scouts on Thursday, August 29. You may find out more about Scouts here at Midway on that evening, 6:00-7:30 p.m.
I hope you have a wonderful weekend! First priority is for you and your children to get some rest and then read a great book together.
Your truly,
Jan Fickling
Principal of Midway Elementary School

Create your own Tabata!
Midway Elementary Physical Education classes have been performing Tabatas for the last 5 years. Tabata training is one of the most popular forms of high-intensity interval training (HIIT). Our Tabata exercises last only 4 minutes, but it's likely to be one of the longest 4 minutes you've endured. The structure of the program is as follows:
- Work out hard for 20 seconds
- Rest for 10 and get in the next body position
- Complete 8 rounds
You push yourself as hard as you can for 20 seconds and rest for 10 seconds. This is one set. You'll complete eight sets of each exercise.
You can do pretty much any exercise you wish. You can do squats, push-ups, burpees or any other exercise that works your large muscle groups. Have your child create a Tabata and choose 8 exercises and then play the Tabata music in the link below.
