41st annual invitational is a wrap!
More importantly, I want to THANK YOU for making decisions that you know are best for YOUR kids. Each one of us had to make a call that was not easy, but ultimately the best for our programs. I continue to admire each and every one of you for putting your kids above self on a daily basis
While we didn't have the participation we originally anticipated, by EVERY measure our invitational was huge success. Our parents modified the entire routing procedure on the fly, we adjusted food so we weren't creating waste, and we were able to give those bands that chose to perform an incredible experience.
When I told the kids "of all the memories you have of band, this will be the one that you will FOREVER talk about" I wasn't lying. Performing in 30 mph winds with SNOW beating against your face is something that we never planned on, but will never forget.
A special thanks to Crystal Nichols who worked tirelessly to make this invite perfect to see it all turned upside down. The entire day you saw her working hard to make adjustments to the show and not once complained about what mother nature was doing to her well crafted plan. She is a champion for these kids in every sense of the word.

The Harsh Reality
With the budget conscious minded folks planning our invite we planned an invitational that was both fiscally responsible and incredibly rewarding for all those that participated. However the reality is we planned on more folks to show. A lot more.
With 1,200+ students planned for attendance and an expected 1,800+ spectators we anticipated a gate profit of around $13,000 and concession stands to boot. By all measure we had set ourselves up to earn between $7,000-$9,000 after expenses. Instead we find ourselves LOSING right at $3,000. What makes things worse is we budget to EARN $3,000...that's a $6,000 swing.
I'm not interested in making money on the invitational but what I don't want to see happen is pulling profits from other successes to cover our costs for this invitational. It'd be nice to walk away clean. I also don't want to have to throw yet another fundraiser in the face of the kids (like cheese and sausage....yuck.). So I need your help.
Will you spread the word that we are in need of some community members to step up in a MAJOR way to help us underwrite this loss. We are in need of sponsors we haven't yet solicited. We made a promise to those who sponsored us we would ask them to sponsor us just once this year, and we want to keep that promise. If we can find someone who will knock this out in one shot I would be MORE THAN HAPPY to give the naming rights to our 42nd invitational to that person/company.

Senior Honors Dinner and Halftime Highlights awards ceremony
5:30 pm - Senior Honors Dinner in the band room. Formal invitationals and RSVP's to come later this week.
7:00 pm - Halftime Highlights and Awards ceremony in the Auditorium. All parents, families, and students should attend as each student is recognized and will receive patches for their jacket.
Semi-State
In preparation, we are not performing at halftime at the sectional game on Friday (we will still do pregame). With a start time of 6:00 a.m. these kids need rest. PLEASE make your kids be home at a reasonable time...more reasonable than a typical night! While many will not be able to fall asleep by 9, having them in a relaxed environment allows them to slow down their minds and rest.
Consider doing something as a family, as this weekend is all about family. Might I suggest a Disney movie...
Once more...this week is all about family. Both blood, and musical. I love each and every one of these students. And (just like you parents know) love comes through expectations, high demand, understanding, forgiveness, and trust.
I love this band family unconditionally, and am honored to stand on the track this Saturday and proudly call them "my kids" as they do what they do best - be incredible.
