Appreciations
Thank you Marlene for coordinating the CHKS Survey and ensuring we are a 'Triple Crown Winner'! We surpassed our goals for student, family, and staff surveys!
Thank you teachers for all your hard work preparing for and facilitating report card conferences. Teachers across the school were showing and not just telling families to explain students' scores, share student reflections, teach math models, and more! (See photos below for just a small sample of strategies throughout the school!)

Opportunities:
Khan Academy is thrilled to announce some help for schools in the form of free devices (e.g., Chromebooks) and free home internet access!
Here’s how it works: If ...
- A majority of your school's students are in the Free and Reduced School Lunch Program
- Half of the eligible students at your school (those in grades 3-12) sign up for LearnStorm
- Students do at least half an hour of work on their math skills in LearnStorm
Then the school will unlock free devices and home internet access for students:
- Google.org will fully fund classroom technology up to a value of $7,500 for smaller schools (for example this could buy one laptop cart plus 30 Chromebooks for a school) and up to $15,000 for schools with more than 300 students through DonorsChoose.org.
- Internet Essentials from Comcast will fully fund 6 months of free home internet access for all eligible students and their families.

Oakland Reads 2020 (OR2020) is currently offering a "Double Your Impact" campaign to match donations to classroom literacy projects posted by Oakland teachers onDonorsChoose.org.
OR2020 has committed $25,000 to "double the impact" of donations made to eligible classroom projects, ultimately providing one-half of the funding for projects that meet their fundraising goal. Since January, OR2020 has matched nearly $11,000 in donations for 45 projects at 19 schools. Click here to view the current list of qualifying projects.
OR2020 encourages teachers to post projects to DonorsChoose.org (see eligibility requirements below) and take advantage of this match! Teachers can create a profile and set up a project through the DonorsChoose.org teacher portal.
IMPORTANT: In order to qualify for the OR2020 match, projects must meet the following eligibility requirements:
- Location: An Oakland public school (district or charter) or preschool where at least 65% of students qualify for Free/Reduced Price Lunch
- Age: Grades PreK – 2
- Subject: Literacy & Language
- Total cost: $1,000 or less
A fact sheet with more information is attached, please share broadly with your networks. Feel free to contact info@oaklandreads.org or 510-899-7914 with questions.
