3rd Six Weeks 2015-2016
AUTHOR FEATURES STUDENT WORK
Lia Munoz's Accordion Book is featured on author Dianne de Las Casas social media accounts; Twitter and Facebook. The author came to Garcia Elementary to do a presentation to 2nd and 3rd grade students of her book "The Gigantic Sweet Potato". Students created different projects based on the book.
3rd Grader Diego Alvarado receives Reading Badge from Author
Diego Alvarado, 3rd grader is a recipient of the Diary of the Wimpy Kid Reading Badge from Author Jeff Kinney. Diego participated in the nationwide "Diary of the Wimpy Kid Challenge" where children who have read the book series answer trivia questions. Nice job Diego!
RESEARCH and TECHNOLOGY
After reading the Bluebonnet Book " Emily's Blue Period", 3rd grade students did a research on Pablo Picasso. In this lesson, students were able to apply basic research skills, work with their Bilingual Pairs and filled out their 123 Notes.
5th Grade students use the Ipad App "Popplet" to create maps as their presentation tool on the important historical figure they are learning about. Before doing this presentation, students have to research on different historical figures using the databases provided and also print sources. Students also learned how to cite sources both print and digital and the concept of plagiarism. Technology skills such as encoding, browsing, copying and pasting and saving pictures were applied while doing this activity.
3rd Six Weeks AR Goal Achievers
205 students from 1st-5th Grade met their AR Goals this third six weeks. Students must have an 85% average correct and must meet their individual goal points to be recognized. They were rewarded with a "Craft Reading Party" were students in 1st and 2nd Grade made their Reading Crowns and 3rd-5th graders made their reading bracelets. Great Job boys and girls! Keep on Reading!

Battle of the Bluebonnet Books
This year is our first time to participate in the Battle of the Bluebonnet Books. Benjamin Foreman and David Fernandez represented our school. Thank you Benjamin and David!
First Book Distribution
