From the Principal--Mrs. Rooks
Student Council Food Drive--Student Council's annual food drive began on Thursday, November 1 and will run through Friday, November 9. We will thankfully accept any food donation but would like to make the following request.
- 5th grade-bring laundry detergent (One of our StuCo members discovered that laundry detergent cannot be purchased with food stamps, so that's why we want to donate laundry detergent.)
- 4th grade-toiletries
- Kindergarten-3rd grade-canned foods and nonperishable food
Thank you for helping StuCo donate to the Andover Food Bank! We love making a difference in our community.
Redesign Update-Teachers have begun reviewing student, staff and parent feedback regarding what is working at CES, what should be changed and where can we improve. Site Council and PTO were also given the data to help us look for trends. We will use this information to help us develop a vision statement and goals for our small group work. Small groups have started to research practices and programs that might benefit Cottonwood students. We look forward to sharing more in the future.
Construction News--While our construction is over, construction at AHS is just beginning. You will see more construction vehicles on Andover Road. We are experiencing more cars in our south parking lot. Be prepared.
Safety--Please share before and after school procedures with anyone picking up your student. Each staff member strives to do what is best for all children. We want our students and families to be safe!
Veteran's Day is Sunday, November 11th. Cottonwood says Thank You!
Splash for 2nd Grade!
Mrs. Highfill's class will be the first group to benefit from this program. Mrs. Davis and Mrs. Hachen's class will participate in January and February. If you have questions or would like to donate to this program, please call or email Mrs. Rooks.
School Bus Driver's Appreciation Week was October 22nd-26th
Counselor's Corner--Marcie Faust
Citizenship is our theme for November. The definition of citizenship is the status of being a citizen, along with the rights, duties, and privileges of being a citizen. We are going to address ways in which we show good citizenship at school and in the community. We are also going to talk about all the things we have to be thankful for. We are going to celebrate all the blessings we each have.
The holiday season can be a difficult time. If your child struggles with this please let me know and I will check in on them. If there is anything else your child is stressing about I will check in on them as well. For example, grades, not making friends, not wanting to come to school, or issues at home.
If your family is in need of holiday assistance please reach out to me.

Cottonwood Library
CES Book Fair “Enchanted Forest, Where Imagination Grows” Students at Cottonwood were excited as the library transformed into an enchanted forest of books. Life lessons were practiced as wish lists were made (budgets/money), games played (scavenger hunt), and a classroom winner topped the activities. Students dressed as their favorite book character and participated in a drawing to win a book from the book fair.
Family night was held on Tuesday, Oct. 16 and Thursday, Oct. 18. Parents, grandparents, and siblings helped make the book fair successful. “We met our goal and purchased over a thousand dollars of books for the library,” said Mrs. Ohlund. “I’m happy to add lots of new books to our collection.”

Nurse's News
The health office would like to remind everyone that flu season is here. Please get your flu shots. Remember to always notify the health office of all positive test results for strep throat and influenza A and B. Also a reminder on district policy, if your student has a fever or has vomited, they must remain at home until he or she is fever free/ vomit free for 24 hours without the use of medication. Our goal is to keep the building as healthy as possible. It takes all of us.
If you have been contacted by mail/phone concerning missing health documents please turn those in. If you have any questions please give us a call.
