Thanks for attending P/T Conferences!!
Families,
We loved seeing all the families that came for Parent Teacher Conferences. It such an awesome time during the year that we get to share with you how well your child is progressing at SES. We look forward to finishing out the school year strong!
Our February Student Voice Team met this past Friday to begin the process of working on our SES Family Rules for each student to follow throughout the school day. We hope to have these finished by Spring Break, so we can share with the families.
Check Out the New Blog Post written by Madeley Wilson about Flexible Seating!!
For the month of February, we have provided you with links to the Home School Connection, SES Monthly Fitness, February lunch and breakfast menus, and food focus of the month.
Have a Joyful week!

Family Activity Bags
FAB Activities
Parents,
Welcome to SES Family Activity Bags! We are excited about our new themed activity bags for your family to learn and have fun together. Each bag has everything you need to get started (and finished) including the glue, crayons, books, scissors, and things to keep as well.
Students selected this thematic bag and will get to keep it until the following Thursday. We ask that you follow the instructions provided after this letter on what to keep at home and what needs to be returned to school. We encourage you to complete as many activities as possible throughout the week. All activities are related to the standards students are learning at school.
We’d love to see pictures of your family completing the activities through Twitter (tag @SheridanSES and use #sesFAB) or you can text them to the SES phone number at 870-455-2198. Students will also have an opportunity to show and tell everything they did with their family on Thursday when they return the bag.
We hope that you enjoy the Family Activity Bag your child picked out!BJ Spann with Daughters, Peyton and Chelsea
WATCH D.O.G.S at SES
WATCH D.O.G.S. (Dads Of Great Students) is an innovative father involvement, educational initiative of the National Center for Fathering.
What are the goals of a WATCH D.O.G.S. program?
To provide positive male role models for the students, demonstrating by their presence that education is important.
To provide extra sets of eyes and ears to enhance school security and reduce bullying.
Who are WatchDOGS and how does WATCH D.O.G.S. work?
WatchDOGS are fathers, grandfathers, uncles, and other father-figures who volunteer for at least one day each year at an official WATCH D.O.G.S. school.
WATCH D.O.G.S., a K-12 program, invites fathers, grandfathers, uncles, or other father figures to volunteer at least one day all day at their child’s/student’s school during the school year. WatchDOG dads and volunteers perform a variety of tasks during their volunteer day including monitoring the school entrance, assisting with unloading and loading of buses and cars, monitoring the lunch room, or helping in the classroom with a teacher’s guidance.

Pop Tabs at SES
For the next few months, Sheridan Elementary School will be participating in a service project to benefit the Ronald McDonald House Charities. The Ronald McDonald house is a “home away from home” provided for families of seriously ill children receiving treatment at nearby hospitals. Little Rock has one of these houses. The Ronald McDonald House Charities currently has a drive to collect pull tabs (as shown in the picture at the top of this page) for aluminum cans. The pull tabs are collected and donated to the charity who will then recycle them for funds to help support the Ronald McDonald House. We will be having a contest in our school to see which classroom can collect the most tabs in total weight during our collection period. The tabs will be weighed periodically throughout the contest. The winning class will get to take a field trip to the Riverfest School Days Pop Tab Pandemonium Event held at the River Market in Little Rock. Collecting by the students may begin immediately. This is a great way to teach kids about philanthropy and the importance of recycling while raising funds to help children and their families at the same time. We would like to encourage you and your family to help us out with this worthwhile activity. THANKS!
What does RMHCA do with the pop tabs?
We recycle tabs and the money we receive helps pay for families to stay at the Ronald McDonald House. We do not require our families to pay to stay, so this program alleviates some of the costs associated with housing 28 families each night.

Box Tops for Education
We are having a Box Top collection contest during the 2016-2017 school year. We will collect Box Tops from each class.
Box Tops Tips:
Please trim all excess off of all labels prior to turning them in; it saves us time and shipping. Please use the attached collection sheet and either glue or tape the box top in the square. Each filled page of box tops will amount to $3.00 and will be counted toward your child’s class. Please check the expiration dates prior to sending in. Bonus Box Tops have to be kept separate from regular box tops. Please make sure your child’s name and teacher are printed on the collection sheet. If you need more collection sheets, contact the office or your child’s teacher.
