Abrams Elementary School
Make it a Great Day the Abrams Way!
May 2017 Volume 4, Issue 15
Mark your Calendar:
Memorial Day - Monday, May 29th - No School
Last day of School is June 2nd, with the Fun Fair in the morning and dismissal at 2:55 pm. The last day is a fun day and a great way to celebrate the end of another successful year.
4k Placement:
With morning 4k Kidstation being located at Abrams and planning for busing, we will not be mailing out the 4K placement letters until the beginning of June.
Spinners:
There is a craze right now with spinners. While they are fun to play with, they are very distracting in the classrooms. Teachers are giving students a warning if they are out during class time and students are asked to put them in their backpacks. On the 2nd warning, the spinner is taken and kept until the end of the day when it is given back to take home and keep at home. On the 3rd warning the spinner is taken, the parent is called and told the spinner will be held until a parent comes to get it. Thanks for your understanding.
Flip Flops/Sandals:
Please do not send your child to school in flip flops or sandals. I understand that the weather is warmer and we want to wear those types of shoes but at school they are just not safe. While at recess it is much easier to trip and fall or to get a wood chip stuck in your shoe or toe. We had a student this week get hit by a door with flip flops on and get cut pretty bad on the heel. With shoes on, that would not have happen. Thank you for understanding as we are trying to avoid injuries.
PRINCIPAL'S CORNER
This will be our last newsletter of the year. I hope you have enjoyed our new format. I know I have. It is fun to see the fun art work and the pictures we can include and see much clearer. We have also saved much time and money with moving things to an online format.
I have enjoyed the year greatly. So many wonderful things have happened this year. Watching the kids grow and learn in so many areas is the most enjoyable. I hope this summer everyone will continue to read and practice your math skills. Remember to sign up for summer school classes to help you review your skills as well as have lots of fun with your friends and teachers. There is still time to get registered!
Please contact me with any questions or concerns you have about your child or school.

Classroom Chatter
The fifth graders have been learning about the Revolutionary War. Each student choose an important person from this time period and performed a monologue on that person. The students needed to speak and dress as if they were that person to teach their classmates more about them. Everyone enjoyed seeing their classmates dress up as influential historical figures!

Food Service Notes
A Note From Food Service…
With the end of the school year fast approaching, it’s time to keep a close eye on the balance in your child’s lunch account. All accounts must maintain a positive balance in order to make purchases through the end of the school year. Please feel free to email me at Amanda.Sonnenburg@of-ps.org with any questions, or to find out how much it will cost to get your children through the end of the school year.
Nurses Knowledge
Epi-Pens: Epinephrine Autoinjectors (Epi-Pens) are a medical device for injecting a measured dose or doses of epinephrine (adrenaline) by means of autoinjector technology. It is most often used for the treatment of anaphylaxis (a severe allergic reaction).
Many people may require an Epi-Pen if they come into contact with an allergen. Some people are severely allergic to certain foods, medications or bee and wasp stings. Once a severe allergy is known the health care provider would prescribe the Epi-Pen for emergency situations.
Epinephrine in the autoinjectors expire after one year. If you or your child have a prescribed Epi-Pen, please take the time to check the expiration date. If the Epi-Pen is getting close to its expiration date or is already expired, a new one will need to be obtained.
If you or a family member need assistance in covering the cost of an Epi-Pen prescription, you may talk with your healthcare provider for resources. You may also log on to www.epipen.com/resources/paying-for-epipen.
If your child has a history of a severe allergy and an Epi-Pen prescribed, it is always encouraged for your child to have his or her Epi-Pen available at school. Please contact Lynette Donart RN, Oconto Falls District Nurse, at 920-848-4467 ext. 6 if you need to discuss this emergency medication need for your child and it’s availability while at school or during school field trips.
What's Happening With the CPTO....
Upcoming Events: Our annual end of the year Fun Fair is coming up quickly, but to make it work we need your help. It takes over 50 volunteers to make the fair run smoothly. Would you be willing to run a game? Serve food? Help younger students get through the obstacle course? Any amount of help you can give the morning of June 2nd would be appreciated. Any questions? Contact Laurie Kluth @ 604-1976 or email leakluth@yahoo.com
Playground Ideas Please send your playground improvement ideas to Chris Lagerquist at watersedgeodrs@gmail.com before the next meeting. Your input is greatly appreciated.
Next CPTO meeting will be held in September. Plan on attending to nominate and vote in new board members.
