ATHENS
One Of The Greatest City-States
EDITORIAL
Athens was known for their intelligence and arts, unlike Sparta
who was just known for their strong army. They were much more
clever in planning and strategizing through the Persian wars. Also,
Athens had a Golden age which included sculpture, poetry,
drama, and architecture.
PHILOSOPHY
Some of the greatest philosophers, such as Socrates and Plato, were known for their unusual ways of thinking. Some were executed because of the accusations of corrupting people. Some of Athens philosophers came up with new forms of government and wrote many books.
SCIENCE
Aristotle developed the basis of all experiments through the empirical method.
POLITICS
Athens created a direct democracy where all citizens vote directly instead of through a representative. Each polis had their own government. Solon ad Pericles were the first Greek leaders to pursue equality for everyone.
ARTS
Through the Golden age, Athens achievements in arts increased dramatically. They advanced in sculptures, architecture, and literature. Some famous people known for this are Phidias, Aeschylus, and Sapphos.
