Counselor Highlight of the Week; Dana Goodstein

Dana is a seasoned camp staffer coming back this year for her fourth summer! Her hobbies include singing, dancing, and hanging out with friends. She is a rising senior at the University of Delaware, where she is studying to be a music teacher. Dana's favorite part of camp is the sense of community Big Blue Summer instills in every member, from counselor to camper! Campers jump at the opportunity to join Dana's Drama Club... her enthusiasm for creating and singing new songs keeps campers engaged and having fun!

E-Enthusiastic; Jack and the Beanstalk S.T.E.M.

Fe... Fi... Fo... Fum! Who knew science could be this fun! Given limited resources of mini marshmallows, dry spaghetti, brown paper bags, and some tape, each cabin put their brains together to build "Jack" the best beanstalk. Each group identified leaders and ideas that helped them all succeed. The highlight of the activity was the storytelling aspect and bringing that story to life in their creations. Even our mini campers got in on the action building their beanstalk with blocks! The energy and enthusiasm was through the roof as campers walked around the gym admiring one another's work.

Honor; Counselor in Training Training Counselors

The Big Blue Summer Counselor in Training (C.I.T.) program teaches rising counselors the values and skills that will help them be a great camp employee! This week, the C.I.T.s explored the camp rules and regulations, and filmed demonstration videos for new staff members to watch and learn from. While producing the video, C.I.T.s acquired useful brainstorming and collaborative skills, and had ton a fun in the process!
