Academic Collaboration
About the FMHS SIC
This year, the SIC goals focused on expanding opportunities for students pursuing college readiness. Past SIC efforts resulted in the establishment of whole day SAT test-prep workshops at Fort Mill High School. Over the years these efforts have expanded to include ACT test-prep workshops and underclassmen participants. This year the SIC developed a goal for reaching students whose academic course load prohibits them from taking part in the test prep because they cannot afford to miss the seat time in their rigorous classes. In response the SIC of Fort Mill High School reached out to our test-prep partner, One-on-One Learning and developed a pilot program for the 2017-2018 school year. Next year Fort Mill High School in conjunction with local area high schools will host a Saturday ACT test-prep session in the fall of 2017. This additional test-prep session will provide options for Fort Mill High School students to appropriately prepare for a gateway college readiness test without sacrificing seat time in their demanding courses. The addition of a fall session will also provide flexibility for students seeking to get a jump on early test administration.
