MR. DAVIS IS COMING TO HILLSBOROUGH COUNTY!
After a process that spanned several months, our School Board selected our next Superintendent...
Addison Davis is currently Superintendent of Clay County Public Schools—but his career began more than twenty years ago as a Physical Education and Earth Space Science Teacher in Duval County. He rose up through the ranks as a Vice-Principal and Principal in Duval County and was appointed to numerous leadership positions there.
In 2016 he was elected Superintendent of Clay County Public Schools where, under his leadership, the county made tremendous gains in grad rates and the number of “A” and “B” schools.
3 FAST FACTS ABOUT OUR INCOMING SUPERINTENDENT...
- He loves the outdoors and runs every day!
- He loves spending time with his family. His wife, Natalie, is his best friend. They have been married 19 years. They have two daughters, Madisyn, who is a freshman softball player at UCF and Kaitlyn, an 8th grader, who plays volleyball.
- His favorite food is candy. Specifically, jelly beans and sour patch kids... Tropical flavored sour patch kids to be even MORE specific!
BEHIND THE SCENES OF BOUNDARY CHANGES
If a school boundary change affects your child, chances are you're not looking forward to it. But sometimes moving boundaries is necessary as communities grow and change to keep our schools from being overcrowded and used in the best way possible.
Please know… months—and often years—of work and research go into making the best decision possible when it comes to a boundary change.
Here’s the process:
- Looking ahead in areas that are growing or changing, our district's planning staff reviews current student enrollment, future projected enrollment and school capacities to generate scenarios that will limit overcrowding and maximize the use of our existing schools.
- The different boundary scenarios are reviewed by an internal stakeholder group consisting of various district departments including Transportation, Growth Management, School Choice, Human Resources, Area Superintendents and Principals of the schools involved.
- Once the internal stakeholder group selects one of the scenarios to propose to the public, our district brings the plan to the public for input.
That is when the families affected by the boundary change will receive a communication from our district about upcoming public outreach meetings. Based on the input from those meetings, the plan can be—and often is—revised. That revised plan is then posted for additional public comment.
Only then is a final plan brought before our School Board. No attendance boundary changes are final until School Board approval.
