Principal's Message
August 13, 2021
Dear Members of the KMS Community,
It’s hard to believe that another school year is quickly approaching. I can clearly remember the day back in 1996 when my own daughter started kindergarten and the building excitement, the increasing happiness, and all the anxious anticipation that came with it. After 34 years in education I still don’t sleep the night before the first day of school! Understand that we all can appreciate what your children and you will be experiencing in the upcoming weeks.
This communication/newsletter is the first for the 2021-2022 academic year. It contains important information for the start of the year.
Note that the first day of school for all students is Wednesday, September 8, 2021. Our start time is 7:30 AM and dismissal time is 2:00 PM. Parents may drop off students at 7:20am.
It is extremely important that families who require transportation complete the Google form that is linked below. Inquiries about transportation should be directed to the central administration office at 401-253-4000 ext. 5122. The deadline for completion of this form is August 18.
I have shared a link for completing the free/reduced lunch application. It’s important that families complete this form even if you think that you may not qualify. The limits have changed. Please understand that our federal funding depends on the completion rate of this form.
We are happy to announce that we will have a full transition day for all grade 6 students on Thursday, September 2, 2021 from 7:30 to 2:00. Bus transportation will be provided. It will be a full day for grade 6 students only and you will find a schedule below.
We are also inviting new students and those students who were fully virtual last year to a modified “meet and greet” with the KMS administration and teachers on Friday, September 3 from 10:00-11:30
For your convenience, I have included links to our updated district calendar, our KMS Student Handbook, and a modified supply list. Grade level team supply lists with additional suggested materials may be shared by teachers once the ASPEN portal opens on August 23, 2021.
Lastly, I will share the latest information regarding the Health and Safety Guidance that we have received from RIDE in the next update. Understand that this information changes almost on a daily basis. I will do my very best to keep you updated with the latest information. Additionally, I have also included information on three upcoming Covid-19 vaccination clinics being held here at KMS and sponsored by the Warren Fire Department.

I look forward to the upcoming school year, creating a supportive environment where students are free to learn anything their imaginations can conjure, where staff are supported and families are encouraged to participate in our educational family. I’m certain that we may face trials and tribulations, but together we can work collectively to continue to navigate our way to success.
Enjoy these last few weeks of summer break! We will be sending our our weekly newsletter every Friday.
Best regards,
Mr. Dennis Morrell,
Principal

Student and Parent Support Brochure
The parent portal feature of the Aspen student information system provides you with information about your child's attendance and performance in class.
BWRSD has a process in place to automatically create portal accounts.
- When a student is registered, there is an overnight process that creates an account for the student and for the parent.
- During the registration process, parents/guardians must express that they would like a portal account and they must provide an email address.
- The email address should not be an AOL account as the AOL company does not accept email messages from Aspen.
- If they have an email account in the Aspen system, parents/guardians will receive an email message with the account credentials and directions to set up their portal account should they forget their password.
If parents/guardians have multiple students (grades 6-12) within the Bristol Warren Regional School District, they will be given one login account (for each parent/guardian) for the district that provides them with portal access for the family.
To request a password reset:
- If your account has been disabled, please email portal@bwrsd.org Include the following information and request a password reset:
- Your name and the following information for each of your children in Grades 6-12:
- Student’s Name
- Current Grade in School
- Date of Birth
Set Your Preferences-Very Important
This allows the system to send you an email with a temporary password should you forget your password.
- Go to the top right hand corner of the window and click on “Set Preferences”.
- On the top “Security” Tab, please input your email account address,
- Choose a “Security Question” and “Answer”.
