Room 11 on the Move

Congratulations to our Multiplication Masters

Bailey, Emma, and Aaliyah have put in the hard work to pass all of their multiplication quizes. The four of us enjoyed lunch together on Friday, topped off with ice cream sundaes. They earned a part of those sundaes with every quiz passed (for their fours -- a scoop of chocolate; for their eights -- whipped cream, etc.) And then they had to earn their spoons by passing a mixed fact test. Congratulations! If you student hasn't yet passed, please help him/her make flashcards and study together. I'd love to throw a few more sundae parties.

and applause for an award-winning artist

Daltrey's artwork won first prize in our school-wide contest and is featured as our Family Fun Night logo. I hope to see all of you at school for Family Fun NIght on Friday evening as we enjoy dinner, a raffle, and games.

Stand-out reader

Bailey also won reading recognition at Good Morning Monroe for being a daily top reader in Achieve 3000. As our Oklahoma state standardized tests approach, Achieve 3000 is a great way for you to help your student prepare.

Taking art to the stars

Our class enjoyed creating an out-of-this-world rocket college with our art teacher, Mrs. Miller. Along the way, we learned about value, color, motion, and design. Come see our rockets and their starry backgrounds in the hallway across from our room, and check out the pictures of our class hard at work on them below.

Math Test Wednesday

Please look for a practice test to come home with your child on Tuesday. If you will sit down and discuss it with your student, it will make a huge difference the next day. Thank you for your support!

Volunteer Test Proctors Needed

Here's a a message from Ms. Kirk:

Greetings Monroe Families! It is that time again... testing time! I am beginning the process of looking for Test Monitors. It is not a hard job and does not have to be a big time commitment at all! All you have to do is attend test monitor training and pick which days you would like to be a monitor.

Tests Monitor Slots (can pick one or more!):

  • Monday, April 2nd 8:00-10:00
  • Tuesday, April 3rd 8:00-10:00
  • Wednesday, April 4th 8:00-11:00**
  • Thursday, April 5th 8:00-11:00**
  • Friday, April 6th 8:00-11:00
  • Tuesday, April 10th 8:00-11:00**
  • Wednesday, April 11th 8:00-11:00**
  • Thursday, April 12th 8:00-10:00
  • Thursday, April 12th 12:30-2:30

**We need significantly more volunteers on these days. All times are approximate because it is not a timed test-- will likely be much shorter!

Test Monitor Training is offered at the following days and times (you only have to attend one). Your children arewelcome to attend. It should not take longer than 30 minutes.

  • Monday, March 26th at 8:00
  • Tuesday, March 27th at 3:00
  • Thursday, March 29th at 12:30

If you would like to volunteer your time or have any questions at all, please email me at or give me a call at the school 366-5927. Thank you so much for all you do for your students and our school!

With gratitude, Sarah Kirk

Keeping up with missing work

Thank you to the many of you who have helped your children get back on track with turning in missing work. You are helping them learn the life skill of organization. You can expect to see your child's late work updated in parent portal a couple of weeks after it is turned in. Of course you can also find grades for current assignments updated frequently -- - check it out.

The Academic Rundown

  • In reading, we'll enjoy a couple of versions of the folktale Stone Soup.
  • In ELA, we'll be working on telling the difference between possessive and plural nouns.
  • In spelling, we'll study words that make different versions of the "oo" sound.
  • In math, we'll review for our test on Wednesday and study plotting points and lines of symmetry.
  • In social studies, we'll continue our guided inquiry into Native Americans, cowboys, and outlaws and the impact each of them had on our state.
